What were your injuries?

Hi, I got cut off on the interstate early October. The woman at fault was on an exit ramp and tried to get back on to the freeway. I did not see her cut back in so I did not get a chance to hit my brakes. I hit the car with my head in first while I was being catapulted over the car and landed on my knee, bounced off and somehow slipped down the freeway on my butt. Didn't loose consciousness and the entire time my thoughts were that I will be dead. Fortunately, I only had a broken femur and some tendon and ligament tears only in one leg. Besides that I had road rash where my jacket lifted up and it burnt through my jeans. I have been debating whether or not I will get back on to the saddle. Most likely I will, and it will be the new M. But while I'm recovering I have been curious to hear about some of your injuries, I have a metal rod in my left femur. Have been told that there won't be a need to take it out, but they will take out the screws if they cause discomfort. At the moment, I can not bend my leg, so toilets are my worst nightmares. What are some of your injuries, and if you had any metal rod/plate implants, did you get them removed down the road?

Here are some pics of the implant and my bike.

I've been fortunate in that I haven't had any broken bones -

2013 - Bruised my ego during a track day at New Jersey Motorsports Park
2013 - Little road rash during a ride home in December (cold tires)
2002 - Mild concussion and cut lip when I got hit from behind by a guy driving a Dodge Neon
2000 - Bruised my ego learning how to ride wheelies in a department store parking lot

:lol If we're including bruised egos, I don't have enough time or room to put everything...

Had a car cut me off and went down, had the bike land on my knee resulting in a torn meniscus that required surgery. Everything else has been the occasional low-side or relatively minor stuff, thanks to gear.

yup.. i'm on that boat as well :thumbup

couldnt possibly sit here n' write in detail all the aches and pains resulting from hitting the ground, i kinda have to separate them into two different categories, dirt riding vs street riding... and there are plenty of aches and pains resulting from both...

i'll be back out there in the new season, thats all that matters :hammer:

I'm glad we've come out on the lighter side of injuries but the Busa was a write off.
the road to recovery is long, stick to it and get back out there... i'm sorry to hear of this man, thats terrible

some idiots should really not be on the road, it absolutely ruins it for the rest of us :nono:

2001- First crash, went into a turn too fast and leaned the bike until I ran out of lean angle. Had full gear so no damage to me just bruises from rolling down the high way. Bike had some rashes but all was good (CBR F2)

2001- Went down on decreasing radius turn. I hit the curb with my chest and had the wind knocked out of me. Beside the scare of not being able to breath for a while no other damage. Bike was damage so I sold it (CBR F2)

2002- Went on a two up ride and hit a patch of wet leaves that had both of us hit the ground. No injury to me but shorty got a cool bad girl scar on her knee (CBR 900RR)

2002- Went down at over 120 MPH on the highway. Had mesh armor gear that ripped at the mesh sections. a lot of road rash on my torso but still no major damage to me (CBR 900rr). That is when I went to Yamaha and did not have any further crashes while I was on my R1

2010- Bought a KLR 650, went out for a ride after it topped raining and a car tried to turn in front of me at my right of way. When I braked, the tire hit the wet paint line and down I went like I was on ice. No damage to me, I had amour on. bike had big dent on the tank sold the bike after that.

Damn, I have always rode safe keeping my distance from cagers. This was first time I went down hard, I became handicapped till mid January I was so confident I will be buying another bike until my uncle and dad had the "talk" with me. And now I'm second guessing it.

Not me and not a sportbike but my buddy crashed his YZ450F in a MX race. He snapped both femurs and both orbital sockets (face ate the bars). His helmet looked like an open face after the accident but it saved his life. When all was said and done he was most upset the medics cut his new gear up to treat him lol.

RIP DRG. Miss you bud! :33:

I've ridden over 300,000 miles since getting my license in 1981.
I broke my first ever bone on a deer's head causing my first ever crash at speed this past july.

Still have not been able to ride. Lots of therapy.

year 2000
900RR; on the gas too much, bike wheelies, set bike down into the death wobble (damn 16 inch front wheel) then catapulted into the air with just jeans and shirt and a helmet (yeah yeah squid days), month to recover from road rash from wrist to shoulders then down my back like racing stripes. Deep enough no hair grows on some spots. lol.
year 2008
On the way back to work, going around a blind corner, 18 wheeler making a wrong u-turn on the street. No where to go lock the bike up on the brakes, dump, slide away from the bike. Bike hits the rear wheels of the tractor, I fold up the drivers steps and end up under the tractor. Got myself unpinned. Broken number 4 rib at breast plate and a collapsed lung. Plus my right shoe fell off in the process (damn shoe). Had Shoei helmet, Icon motorhead jacket and gloves for gear. Took a month to recover for me and a year for another bike.

April 2011: Broken Collar bone, Torn spleen, 2 broken ribs, pretty decent road rash on the top of my left foot (still do not have feeling on top of the foot). I was being stupid and hit a curb at 50mph.

October 2014: 2 broken bones in my hand that required 3 pins to be inserted while the bones healed, road rash on my elbow and knee, and a bunch of soreness all over. A mini van pulled out in front of me and I hit her just behind the left front tire and went over the bars.

Both bikes were totaled.. The wreck in April I don't remember so much about the bike but the wreck in October snapped both forks. I believe @Flexxx still has the picture of the bike.

2006 (short version)
4:30AM going to work, am on the 105fwy. managing a right hand turn going 65>:), lights pointing left, am hanging off and i see a darker area than normal and in a millisecond i thought, i don't want to go thru that. i turned as hard as i could and almost made it.
freaking SUV was disabled across the carpool lane and no lights due to the hit and taking out the battery. so i clipped the corner with my left hand.
pinky finger broke in two pcs. pinky bone by hand snapped too.
thumb broken in many pcs.
no road rash other than a cherry on my knee.
thanks to my super dupper gear.

God willing, I'm blessed to have been riding sport bikes in SoCal for over 30 years (age 48), and nothing serious YET... It's the "YET" part, that keeps me in control of my testosterone and riding habits. Many close calls, with the most recent being a gentle drop of my '09 R1 in a parking lot when I changed my mind at the last second about which spot I wanted, and didn't have speed to tighten my turn. Bike: broken right peg Me: gross ego bruise, and pulled bicep tendon (not sure if that was from laying it down, or from trying to upright it too fast before anyone saw it :-/ . ) To add more embarrassment, the one broken bone (wrist) I've had in my life, was from falling out of my wife's Lexus in the garage when my shoe lace hooked the e-brake pedal. I tried to catch a metal shelf as I lost my balance, but missed, and hyperextended my wrist between the shelf bracket and the wall in stead...

January 2014:
Lane splitting through rush hour, car changes lanes into me and side swipes me. Car hits me leg below the knee. I go down and land on my left side/shoulder. Scuffed helmet, serious shoulder sprain, it would fall out of the socket, rash on left knee.

Rode the bike off the highway, got a friend to take me home, got truck, loaded bike into truck with one arm, drove to regular doctor, got yelled at, went to ER. From beginning to end, was home from ER in 4 hours. Couldn't get my bike out of truck though, so it stayed there for a couple weeks.

I'm glad we've come out on the lighter side of injuries but the Busa was a write off.

October 2015

Heading home from 2 full days of riding roads in NSW we were just passing through a 50km/h town when an assclown was tailgating and swerving that looked like he was warming his tyres,i made motion[I'm not a violent person] to give us some room and that worked for all of 100m. I seen him in our mirror attempting to do a fishtail burnout across both lanes[Dual but single each way] and straightened up,the last thing i seen was his ute hitting us at 100km/h+ when we were doing 80km/h,forced us into the trade ute infront and kept accelerating to the point where it had us sideways and we clipped a 4WD & Caravan that was doing 100km/h heading in the opposite direction. The end result was $250,000 damage across 4 vehicles[4WD & Caravan rolled] and 2 downed power lines which started a bush fire.

When i viewed my destroyed bike,i got pointed to the caravan where my headlight was melted to the side of it.

The wife ended up with a relocated knee cap,cut to the tendon and broken thumb[fragments in the other] and myself has received 50% lifting capability with my right shoulder and the left could be ****ed aswell.

The bike resulted in a stripped gearbox, front end unusable and the frame/subframe and swingarm were bent. Only good usable parts where the seats.
