I've been away from the R1s for awhile. Any problems to look for? Stay away from any of those years?

Thank you so much for the help in advance!

I'd go with the '08 of the ones you have listed. '07 if the price is right just as long as the ECU has been replaced to cure the throttle lag issue.

I love my '07 but I'm gonna have to agree with Skeeter on this one. I think as far as the problems go on the '07 (ECU, etc.) that the '08 would be the better bike for someone that didn't wanna mess with having those problems fixed. If you're willing to bicker with the dealership a little then I'd go for the '07 as it will be cheaper between the two.

I agree with Madski 100%. Power commander may not help. I don't know. Try to search for 07 glitch and see what you get. I'd imagine you may not find that many people recommend using a PCIII to fix the problem.

I've been researching the two generations for a while now and I would choose the 04-06. It's all about preference though.

Power Commander will not address the "issue".

I think the 04-06 were the best looking bikes BUT I would go with an 07/08 again if only for the slipper.

Power Commander nor any other fuel programmer will fix the throttle lag issue, only ECU replacement. If you want more info then search "ECU throttle lag" and you'll get tens if not hundreds of pages. Another thing to search for is "dealers aware of ECU fix". There is a long list of dealers in almost every state that knows about the issue and has dealt with it before. If you could find a new '07 and work in an ECU swap I'd definitely go that route as opposed to an '08. They're 99% the same bike and the '07 will be cheaper. I have no experience on the prior years so I can't comment there other than the power rush of the '07-08 and the slipper clutch is extremely hard to beat. And another thing for the ECU problems on the '07, it's not a "must do" situation but is strongly encouraged. I could care less about the throttle lag while I'm riding around town and on long rides but just so happens the places that I go to ride aggressively I can't help but find that 2nd gear/5500 RPM "dead spot" every time and if you're not careful it will get you hurt.
