Whats The Best Chain For A 2004 R1? Make And Model.

I use a RK GXW gold 520 chain for both my r1 and my cbr1000rr. You will need sprokets too, and can usually find the whole set for 139.00 through sumofallparts on ebay.

I'm still too scared to run a 520.... :(
How many miles have you guys put on those 520 chains?
Honestly I've only got a couple hundred on mine....I heard it all before hand......they won't last 5K, it'll last 20K.....whatever. The 520 conversion is one of those things like oil or tires where everyone knows it all cause everyone else says so, ya know?

So I wanted a new chain and sprockets (mine had 11k on them but were fine...stock 530, stock rear, Renthal -1 front) so I went w/ a 520 to see for myself. Would I feel it spinning up faster due to the lighter weight? (answer: no)

But otherwise......So far? So good.

No problems with 520 setups. Anyone who doesn't get good mileage out of a 520 doesn't take care of it or installed it wrong. We haven't had one person call us back stating the 520 busted up or didn't last due to normal wear. We had aguy call last week who got 500 miles till the rear sprocket teeth came off. Come to find out he was honest with us so we hooked him up with a new set at cost, but he installed the front sprocket backwards on his gsxr.

Normally the chains will last the longest so I wouldn't worry as much about the chain as you should the sprockets. You want good hard anodized rear sprocket so it lasts. Then make sure your slack is correct and clean/lube it and you'll be good to go.

GXW is a great chain, so is the mvxz and erv3. As long as you get one of the better chains from whatever manufacturer you chose you'll be good to go.

did? the erv3? It all depends on what you want out of the chain. It's the weakest of the ones we sell, but it's the less in weight. You can't say one is better than another w/o knowing what he's looking for. Most all of the upper end chains are very similar though.

I'm running an ERV3 520 chain with Sprocket Specialist sprockets on my R1. 2500~ miles so far and no obvious wear or stretching.
