What's the deal with cops and highbeams

Any cops out there don't mean to offend, BWTF. I always ride with my highbeams at all times. Highbeams help me get recognized so cagers are aware that I'm there. Following that logic, it reduces my chances of getting run over. I've had the CHP on one ocassion, and an Anaheim cop shine their lights from their squad cars at me. I haven't been pulled over and given a ticket yet. If I do I'm going to court to fight it. Does anyone else have this problem. If you're a police officer could you provide some insight.

Are you doing it at night?

I belive that there is a law in cali that says you can not drive with high beams on within a certain distance of other vehicles.

I think it was wrote for night driving but it doesn't state that so it can be inforced it any time.

BTW I use the beams when I am splitting lanes it is safer for sure.

No this is during the day. I know at night they are just way too bright.

first of all i dont even understand how a cop could even tell that your highbeams are on during the day. i ride with my highbeams during the day. in the state of GA it is suggested that motorcycles ride with there highbeams on during the day. even says so in the ga state motorcyle book that the written part of the license test comes from.
second i am a cop and i'm not offended. there are dumbass cops out there just like any other proffession. :cowboy

I never run Highbeam unless at night to see. My theory is that cagers can be pretty dense when it comes to motorcycle awareness. Some will see ya indeed but the brain is programed for 2 lights spaced 55" apart...or a rectangular shape with some sort of glass above it... so if you are a motorcycle or a cage with one light out - you are in danger - they WILL turn in front of you. Besides you highbeamers are blinding ME!!!
Ya know - its all about ME!!! right?
So- I ride like I'm invisible and I prefer it that way. No one sees me and I am counting on that cager to do something stupid/unexpected. It actually kind of throws me when I get cager recognition...like at Monterey at the MotoGP...but with all the bikes around .....
Another word to the wize...drunk drivers [our main cager enemy] will usually fixate on out-of-ordinary lights...ask any cop...or check the videos on COPS where a drunk cager plows right into the cop car that has pulled over a driver...

Your mileage may vary...

Cops are shinnning their light only to get a better look at your beautiful machine.

Thats my guess anyway.

You just ran into two grumpy cops, probably. I always do highbeams during the day and lows at night. Never had a problem. If I'm splitting lanes in near dead stopped traffic at night, sometimes I'll turn on the high beams then too so the idiot that thinks the other lane is faster will hopefully see me and stay put. But once out of the bottleneck, I go back to the low beams.

May be a warning "watch your speed. He probly likes bikes so he's not going to jerk you. Or he could just be saying HAY. Any time a Officer flashes you. Wave as to say HAY back. He's letting you know he's cool and he's not jerking you.

Be safe

Let me tell ya..running w/out the highbeams on during the day on the R1 is a BIG MISTAKE.

I learned this first hand-- the ballasts(sp?) around our low-beam lights make it look like our lights are "blinking"..sometimes (in the event of this cetain soccar mom on her cellphone), makes it look like your turn off the road (although there was no turnoff cuz it was a freaking exit off a highway)...

Anyway... if you look at your headlights behind vehicles trunks, you'll see our light appear to "blink"...this is what the driver sees... Once I realized that cagers were seeing something like a "blinking" light that might indicate the bike was turning off... I've since driven with my highbeams on!
