What's wrong with riders??

So the good days are back here in New Mexico, and I start to see motorcycles coming out everywhere, especially on weekends. It is "show-off" time. Well, this is okay, bikes are also for that I guess, but what I don't understand is 90% of the riders I see are not even wearing a helmet. What's wrong with you guys, you think you are stronger than the pavement?? Even if you fall at 20 miles an hour, can't you picture the damage the road is gonna do to your head, or whatever?? And of course, most of the riders don't wear gear, they just have t-shirts on, and often short pants. This is ridiculous, you guys riding like that don't even desserve any kind of respect, we can't even call you "riders", you are not part of this big family. And Im pretty sure that most of the guys who are riding without any gear are not even experimented rider (a rider with experience would always ride with gear), and they have the most chances to get involved in an accident. You probably think you are invicible, that you will never wreck...well, I won't have any pitty for you if I see you on the side of the road, with road rash everywhere, horrible scares... or even dead because you didn't wear an helmet which could have saved you. Motorcycle is a dangerous passion, you need to respect it and don't try to play against faith, you will lose big time.
I know it is hot, but for God's sake, wear you gear, Id rather sweat a little bit in my gear than knowing the feeling of road rash all over my body because I was stupid enough not to wear anything. And I will respect much more someone with full gear on than the guy in t-shirt, short pants and no helmet who thinks he looks cool... no man, you are just an a**hole with no brain and you obviously don't cherish your life.
This apply to all riders of course, and Im yet to see a HD rider with a helmet on here, they probably think they can't wreck with an HD...

i see guys like that here in sacramento also, i just shake my head and pray for them, even if its 100 degrees out, its not hot when you're moving, only at stop lights, and like you said, once they fall and are lucky enough to ride again, they will learn to never ever ride without their gear. everytime people ask me if i'm hot in my gear i just say "i'm a cheapskate, leather is cheaper than a skin graph"(i think thats what its called). i gave my girl a ride last week, and she was way too small for my spare jacket, so i gave her a short ride, and told her that wont happen again until we get her a jacket that fits and helmets are mandatory in cali so thats a given. anyways sorry for the long post, but i've been drinking a lil, be safe out there guys, remember the 101 critical days of summer, dont drink and ride/drive.

Oh I think I might have you beat, every day last summer I watched these 2 idiots get off the freeway in shorts, tennis shoes with no socks and NO SHIRTS!!! They are about to get rid of the helmet law in Michigan which I think is a horrible idea, it's really just another way for the mafia like insurance companies to rape you on your rate!

im sorry to say and i mean no offence but i think its stupid that in certain states in the US you dont have to wear a helmet, even if i had the choice not to wear one i would, whenever i get on my bike i always wear a jacket with amour in it,gloves and a helmet, and quite a lot of the time i wear boots and leathers, the only times i dont is if its too hot for leathers or if im riding to work and then it would just be inpractical to wear them, whenever you come off its going to hurt but it will eventully happen to everyone and i would rather increase my chances of not seriously injuring myself, anyone who doesnt ride with ah helmet obviously doesnt value thier life.

EZ guys, I've been in one major wreck since I started riding, if I'd have been wearing a helmet I would have head my neck snapped in half and be dead, I've got a cousin paralyzed from the neck down cuz he WAS wearing a helmet and I've heard other stories too, so yeah you can all be disgusted cuz you think its the right think to do, but I had the doctor in the emergency room, straight up tell me " I would really like to yell at you for being an idiot and not wearing a helmet but I'm pretty sure if you had been, you'd be dead"
So, please look at the other side of things, MOST of the time gear saves lives, although sometimes it doens't, the helmet law is optional alot of places for a reason.

So why to they have seatbelt laws in states where helmet laws aren't ????

I say regardless of the law I'm GEARED UP. If I die I tried to be safe

Maybe not wearing an helmet would save you in some cases, but that would be really rare. It is like not wearing a seatbelt, maybe there are a few cases when not wearing a seatbelt would save you, but in 99% of the cases it will save you. If they invented helmet, it is for a reason. I can't imagine Rossi and all the bike racers not wearing an helmet because it may kill them if they fall. If they wear an helmet and not only shades, there is probably a reason. There may be some cases when the helmet is going to harm you more, but I doubt it happens very often and in most cases it will save you to have an helmet on. But Cerebroden it is okay, since you know someone who got killed because he had an helmet on, don't wear one, that may kill you too... this is such a good way of thinking.

Personally, I could give 2 shits what you wear. If you wanna wear short and flip flops, doesn't affect me in the least! I know what protection I'll wear, or not wear. It's my choice. Why do people get soo wound up over what other people do? You have no control over them.

ok listen to the words coming out of my mouth, do I care if you guys get into your racing leathers to run to the gas station? no, neither should you care if i wear a helmet, 1) if I do wreck and I've got a helmet on then I'm just a squid who will live to ride another day but i'f i'm not wearing a helmet then I'm a dead squid who won't have a claim to the insurance company "driving YOUR rates up" so i'm just saying quit yer whiny ass bitching.

It affects us all!:fact Insurance Rates and the extra $35.00 for the 'M' Class endorsement, and the mandatory $10.00 for the truma fund!

That's getting to be the in thing here in Florida. I see more and more riders dressed this way. :fact Yeah, it's hot as hell, but those guys don't want to listen to you. I give up on them. Let them ride the way they want to. It gets me when I see 2 or 3 sportbikes playing tag in heavy traffic doing well over 100mph on I-595 with no helmet and shirt on. Probably have no insurance or M/C endorsement either.

OK, I will look at the positive side of your arguement. As you stated MOST of the time gear saves lives. Tell me a way to figure out 100% every time I ride which SMALL% of time gear does not save your life, and I will gladly to shorts and flip flops?

(Actually I would not, but my point is valid)

And from personal experience and the 2 lawyers watching me type this, the insurance company would eat that doctor alive in court!

When I ride I always wear my lid and full covering shoes never sandles or flip flops , but I do sometimes wear shorts and a tee shirt Ive rode for the better part of my life :finger and am now 38 so if you want to call me a poser then thats fine :thumbup but if you seriously think blue jeans which is 1/16th of an inch thick at 90 mph will help that much then have fun because it wont been there done that. Leather jackets do pretty well if their a good jacket but most are not but I will agree on the lid issue:riding

Honestly it depends on what you are out riding for also. if i am on a long ride or a ride i know will take me on a highway or doing a highspeed run i will wear my helmet (bugs at 75mph+ do not taste good) but if i riding around town i usually won't wear a helmet. I learned to ride without one and around town i want and need all my senses and unobstructed hearing so i can sense all the cars and idiots around me. more than once i have felt a car creaping up my tail or coming over from another lane and if i had my helmet on i wouldn't have known they were there, not wearing a helmet in those situations has saved my life, because i was able to avoid the accident to begin with. the best way to survive an accident is to not be in one.

Although i can say i have never worn flip flops :)
