Hey Fellow R-1 Owners. QUESTION !
Will WHEELS from any other Sportsbike fit on the 1999 R-1 ? The reason I ask is because I have access to two sets of custom wheels from different bikes but I was wondering if ANY wheels from any other sportsbikes would fit the '99 R-1. I know it's a longshot but just figured I'd ask the "Super-Knowledgeable R-1 Riders on this board.

THANKS MUCH ,................. TONY J.

..hey sounds like fun, hope they are good wheels to be worth the hassle...but here goes..
Now I take it the wheels are about r1 size..or your already in trouble.. i mean. take a 190 50 17 rear and whatever the front is?
Ok.. front wheel.. first you need to make sure your R1 disks will actually line up with the mounting holes, I think these are a pretty standard pattern on most jap bikes.. If you cant bolt the disks to the wheel..dont bother.. it wont fit safley!

Ok disk on secure?.. now for some fun.. you need to make sure the disks will float dead center in the calliper, so put you wheel n disks in place on the front spindle as you would normally..if your lucky.. they will slide right on in between the calliper.. with a regular distance between calliper - disk - calliper .. if you have one disk in the middle, and one nearly touching, you need some shims making to pad out a disk.. if both callipers are nearly touching.. on the inside, you either have the calliper mounts shimmed or, you get the wheel machined down.. you get the idea?

Ok if thats worked, then you might be able to tighten up your front spindle.. if its the right diameter, bushings and the bearings are accepted... did i mention how much fun it is fitting odd wheels?

Pretty much the same applies to the back.. a matter of offering the wheel up, measuring and making shim after shim until the brakes and the chain wheel line up... you might have to trim your cush drive to make it fit...if your new custom wheel retains the cush drive.. or find out what the wheel was for and use one of that bike.

Ok, word of warning.. you do need to know what your doing,...this is only my humble opinion.. you need the right tools, the right knowlege.

If you have any doubt about your ability..take it to a engineering company..let them stress about removing that 1/500th of a mill to get the chain wheel running inline with the chain...

By the way, we got this experience from swapping a Honda CB600 front wheel (16 inch) for the CBR600 front wheel (17 inch)...then Honda kindly put a 17 on as standard....GRRRR!!!

Tell us how it goes. :)
