Ok so did you set out with a plan to buy your R1 or did you just see it and had to have it ¿?

my story

I had gotten rid of my pos a few months before. and was thinking of a new bike. so I bought a waverunner instead - 01 GP1200R.
it was kewl for a summer. but really missed the bike. I went to this used bike shop that I heard might let me sell it on their lot.
by the way I had been wanting an R1 since 1998 ya know what I mean.
well no luck on the wave runner, but I drove home on a less than a year old 2001 blue R1 for 7.5k :rock :rock :rock

it was the first week in january, in colorado, at about 5:30 when I rode it home. snow was on the ground - the bike ripped:rock :rock :rock
I was all smiles :) :) :) and still am

Here's my story:

I went to the bank and withdrew enough money for my new bike. I was undecided on which bike to purchase (2002 TL1000R, 2002 Honda RC51, or the 2002 R1) I was trading in my R6, so I had my title in hand, and was ready to deal.
I decided to purchase the TL1000R, so I went to the dealership to pick it up. That particular dealership didn't have an '02 TL, but they did have a 2001 leftover. Now, I had planned on trading in my R6, but since the 2001 was a leftover, I "thought" I could get it for a good deal, so I thought about just keeping my R6 (to sell it on my own later), and just pay cash for the TL. The salesman said he could give me the new TL for $8,200, but I wanted to pay $7,900 since it was already a year old. He wouldn't knock off $300 bucks, so I rode my R6 to another dealership...cash still in my pocket.
I saw my Red R1 which I "kinda" liked, but the RC51 had my full attention. I LOVED the black/silver R1 and would have purchased it in a heartbeat, but they didn't have one in stock and I wasn't about to wait. So, I told the salesman I wanted the RC51. His reply, "we won't have anymore 2002's in for another month or two. The one on the showroom floor has already been sold." :(
I strolled over to the R1 and stared at it for about twenty minutes. I debated on waiting for the RC51, but I told myself, "what if I'm dead in a month. :lol I want to ride today!!"
So, I told the salesman that I wanted the Red R1. I gave him the cash, title, and keys to my R6, and called my brother to come and pick me up. The next day I went back to the dealership, and they had my bike out front all shined up and ready to go. It was parked next to a red Ducati, and I remember saying, "that bitch is sexy as hell!!!" :rock It was then that I knew that purchasing the "limted edition" Red R1 was the right decision.
I've been in love with my ride ever since............

In February 2002 I was looking around for a bike since a month or so and doubting between a Blade (I had one before) or the One (wanted it since I first saw it in '98).
End of February there were open days at the local Yamaha shop, so I decided to take a look. I entered, saw the new Silver 2002 R1, went to the salesman and said: "I want that bike, quick, before someone else buys it."

Ok.

everyone here is telling about how fast he bought the ONE and I see many : "just went, pay the cash and rode it home" stories.
And I think this is how it suppose to be. fast deside.

Well, this is deffenetly not my story:

Its true that I fall in love with the 2002 R1 on first sight.

but this is Israel here and we have only one yamaha dealership all over the country. so IF you want to buy a bike, they should carry it at thier stock. If they dont, you have to wait and wait and wait and wait till they get it.

so I put a down payment about 3(!!!) months ago and I am still waiting for my blue R1 that should be here this sunday (finally, I guess). the bike price is about $22,000 USD and Its very hard to pay this price for a bike and wait for it this long.
I mean, the waitting period is nice but also hard as hell.
not as you guys that got the money and took out the bike at the same day or the day after, I have a lot of time between decision and getting the bike, so I have this extra damn time to think about it and sometime I say to myself things like: maybe thisis not the right time, maybe its too much money for a bike.....
but then I log into this forum, take a look at the pics section, read some posts and all those stupid bad thoughts going out of my head and then I got this big smile that we are all have when we look at THE ONE.

I hope you got the point. sorry for the bad English.

Ah...purchase stories...

I had been looking for the One for some time now, Mr. Anderson.
Every place I called either didn't have the One or had just sold their last One and wouldn't get another One in anytime soon.
As a result...I had to wait. And wait. And wait.

The weekend after I took the MSF class I called Vickery Motorsports down the road from me...finally! The One!
They told me they had five Ones in. Three silvers, a red, and a blue. The blue and One of the silvers were already sold. I told them to hold One of the silver Ones for me and that I would be there in the afternoon to get it.

When I got there...my One was the only silver One left. That very day they sold all the Ones except the red One. Go figure.

 Sounds like I need to export my bike to Israel. I could easily make enough to pay it off and buy a brand new One with cash. Hmmmmm.....

I have always wanted an R1 but started witha YZF600 and then bought a nea '00 R6. Then the '02 R1 came out and I couldn't stand it anymore. I wanted another blue one so I started calling around to find one. I couldn't find a dealer within 3 states that had one in stock except the Yamaha place here in town that I hate. So I sucked it up and went over there to look at it. No intentions of buying , just wanted to see what I had been missing. As soon as I sat on it I had to have it. So I started to talk Deal. The sales man kept trying to sell me the red one. At the time I did not like the red one at all. But he got down to $1000 off for taking the red one instead of the blue one. Being the cheap bastard that I am I took it. Picked it up the next day. Then sold my R6 a couple of months later.

I thought the R6 was a bad SOB till I got the One. Then to climb back on it was like riding a floor jack.

For my first R1 I saved up all winter and was going to pay cash for it. The day I had all the money I didn't have a ride cause all my friends were at work so I called a co-worker. Well he comes pulling up on a full dressed Harley, I didn't care I just wanted to get my bike. Riding bitch was weird, especially pulling into a Yamaha shop on a Harley bike, when I got off of it I felt like I had got done riding a jackhammer.

I had just sold one of my cars and had a $10k check in my hand. Figured I had to have a one. Well, the check cleared the bank on Monday, and I was at the dealer 5 min before they opened Tuesday morning.

I was getting sick of my zx7r, after throwing away countless dollars and hours trying to make it faster and lighter. Yes, it ran awesome, but I wanted something more. So, I rode an 01 R1 and was hooked. I set out looking for an 02 Silver/black. Finally I stumbled across an 02 for $8000 w/ 700 miles. I called the guy and told him I would come get it, It was just outside Cleveland OH. I took it for a spin and brought it home. Now I had 2 bikes sitting in the garage. I finally sold the 7r 4 months later to a guy in California. Then the mods on the R1 began, and 4000 miles later I couldnt be more happy w/ my purchase. :D

I actually went in thinking about used bikes and wasnt going to spend more then 5k.

Then I saw the 03 R1 Black with red flames and said to the guy you think I could get approved with my salary. Knowing all well that I would be rejected allowed them to run the check.
They came back and said ok were going to start filling out the paper work and in a hour or so they said do you wanna take it home now? I said I have to go home and tell my wife.

LOL

I was at a class in San Diego, and had been researching bikes that I wanted. I was either going to get a GSXR1k or the One. I found a dealer that had a 02 Blue R1 close by the hotel that I was staying at. As soon as I went and looked at the bike, I wanted it. I was getting a home equity loan, so I told the guy to hold it for me. He said that I could do it 90 days same as cash, so I probably should have jumped on it then, but decided to wait until my loan was atleast signed. Well the next week I signed the papers, got the check and drove down to san diego from los angeles. I tried calling alot of places in the LA area and they didn't have any 2002's left over, or even any used ones. A couple of dealers actually laughed at me when I asked them :lol!! So i drove the 200 miles down to Diego, loaded the bad boy on the back of my truck and headed home with a big Koolaid smile on my face :crash :crash :crash. Haven't regretted the decision since!

I bought my One like everything else I buy...on a whim. I woke up one day and said to myself...Self, I think we should buy a motorcycle. I went out that day and found one, wrote a check, and picked it up the following week. The hard part was waiting until the following weekend to ride it because I had to get my license still... :( But it all worked out in the end:yesnod

Rhode Island only gets 2 R1's a year. I put a downpayment in the summer of 01 to get the first 02 that arrived. In the beginning of 02 my friend Dave was shooting a porn in New Hampshire. He happened to stop by a bike store and they had R1's all over the floor. I called them and asked if it was true. It was and i asked them to prep a silver one because i needed that bike. I drove it home that day in the pouring rain!!!

Well, it all started when someone on the base had an '01 R-1 for sale. He wanted $9500. Me being the cheap type, checked the blue book and discovered he was in left field. Then just happened to drive by the Camden Motorsports here in town and the '01 Blue R-1 reached out and stopped us (me and weylinj). Said, what the hell, all they can say is no. They wanted $7999 for it. Already had the exhust, frame sliders, chrome windshield, new chain, custom seat, and the transmission had just been rebuilt by the dealership because the guy that traded it didn't tell them it was slipping, and when they did the whole get it ready check for us to take it home they discovered it messed up. So we called the bank and BAMMM, 3 hours later it was ours (well it was his new baby).

But the best part is a week later I traded my '98 CBR 600 F-3 in on a '03 Liquid Silver R-6 for ME!!!!!

I remember the first night i saw my bike, I had just cleaned up the yamaha card out of debt and was in the buying mood...it was in march and it was a dark and misty night...there was a nice selection of used bikes at the dealer...my eyes caught on the R1 thinking it was the R6 at first...so i walked over and saw it....its looked like a small puppy that was in a adoption center just waiting for the right person to come by and pick it up.Well at first i was like "damn, i dont know if iam ready for a 1000cc under my legs" but the bike just keep looking at me with puppy dog eyes saying "buy me, i will make you happy" and by golly i did so!!!

My jaw dropped the first time I saw pictures of the silver/black '02 R1. I saved up during the summer of '02. NO dealers had any when I was ready to buy in the fall so I went looking for used. Found an '02 w/700mi, but the dude wanted almost list for it. I was desperate since no dealers had any. I went to the dealer on my lunch hour just to ask what the exact difference in msrp price would be to this guy's offer (hypothetic question of course, because the dealer hadn't had any silver/black R1's for months). Low and behold, like an angelic ray of sunshine -cue the choir-, there was a silver '03 not an hour out of the crate right there on the showroom floor. Took me about .3 seconds to elbow everyone out of the way and claim it.

Had a 93 cb 750 Nighthawk for about 4 years. Before this bike i had owned a couple of 600cc sportbikes. I got sick of the 750 because it was not as fast as the sportbikes i used to have. I started to feel the need for speed again. Sold my NH 750 and ended up with a used 02 R1 for $7250. It came with the 3 year yamaha warranty, and a slip on pipe. All it needed was new tires. Drove about 80 miles to pick it up. If you feel the need for speed, you can't go wrong with the R1.;)
