Okay, here's the latest "who buys this crap?" thread from eBay. Pretty thoroughly thrashed 2002 -- five days to go, and the bidding is already over four grand.

The "Buy it now" price is $7900 -- quite a bit for a bike that has frame damage -- and I assume that's the reserve, too.

I really like (NOT) the part about "you can weld and tape the frame and nobody will ever notice". Probably not ... maybe you take it to a track, push the flexibility of the frame and something happens. Some of you will probably flame me for this, but I believe that insurance companies should make sure that a totalled bike is not repaired and taken back to the street other than as spare parts.

piece of crap

Man, what a joke! This guy even puts in there "still has the 1 year factory warranty..." HELLO, its a totaled bike with a salvage title. I can see someone walking into a Yamaha dealer trying to get work done on it. "Well, yea its been wrecked once, well totaled actually but I think Yamaha needs to pay for this frame that keeps breaking cause its still under warranty.."

Some people cant live with the truth. Talking about its fast and picks up chicks, yea in its original form. That bike wouldnt pick up a homeless dude. I would have put it out there for about $3,000 and set the Reserve at $4000 or so. Thats fair considering the damage. That salvage title is a killer.

I think I'll keep watching the auction to see if anyone actually buys the thing..:D

Damn Knee beat me to it. How in the hell does he think the warranty is still good? As soon as that salvage title is sent to the Sec of State, its entered into a computer and guess what pops up at a yammy dealer when they enter the VIN. Moron. But by the looks of it, he is getting bids.

100 bucks says that was a $1500 dollar insurance buy back and now the guy is making a killing off it.
I agree!! What a scam. I can't believe that people actually would go for that. Although, broken down and in parts someone might be able to make some money. Looks like the highest bid so far is a cycle dealership. They probably know what they are doing.

I thought the same thing. The guy must be crazy to think about getting that kind of money for a demolished bike. But, as the saying goes......There's an ass for every seat. I think mcGiver will buy it and fix it with his magic duct tape. :lol

High bid is currently $4,275... for parts, it might be worth that.

The guy selling the piece of crap on eBay wrote
It needs a mig, spot, arc weld (aluminum frame) and the hole re-tapped after the weld and you are good to go. The side fairings have two small fixable cracks, need upper stay w/fairing, rear subframe w/fairing, tank, and a few minor ends and outs with a paint job and this bike will be ready to go!
Okay.... even if the bike isn't totalled (and we all know it is), I think the side fairings are a couple of hundred bucks apiece... the front fairing is several hundred, plus the stay is about $175... the rear has to sell for $300-400, plus a subframe for another couple hundred... the tank goes for about $400...

So... you can buy a wrecked bike for $7900, plus about two grand in parts... maybe you could get it down to nine grand if you saved the side fairings and waited for the parts to wind up on eBay.

Hell, for $9,000, you can have an R1 that's as good as new (except for the salvage title and the fact that it should have been totalled). That's a thousand bucks less than suggested retail, and the bike's only been totalled once! What a deal!

Of course, this goon never did the math... probably can't count to eleven without unzipping his pants.
