I don't think plain is the correct word. I would describe it as very subdued graphically. I never was into hanging a bunch of pointless stickers all over things like suzuki does. I know its part of their 'look' but that doesn't mean I like it. The liquid silver is my favorite color (obviously) because it looks very simple and clean. When it comes to color patterns and graphics, less is more in my book and the raven plays that card perfectly. In a world where everything and everyone is fighting for our visual attention, its nice to see something like the raven that says, "I don't give a damn if you look at me or not." Plain, no. Perfectly understated, yes.

It is plain looking compare to the graphically oriented SBs but that's how I like it. I'm not into too much graphics like the blue ones. The plainer it is, the more I like it. It's got its own uniqueness just like the blue R1s and the typical Zooks with their graphic stickers.

Personally, I think the BLACK bikes all (R1, ZX10, etc, just not the Suzi) look ok, but black is currently the "trendy" color. In a couple of years, they'll be out of style. If you really want to play it low key, the (shift red) burgandy R1 is about as low key as you can get...

well we all know black is the slowest and red is the fastest. but for real the contrast from high gloss to flat in the black is annoying.

I thought the BLACK one was hot in all the photo's, and was about to buy one, when I saw the RED one. In the sun, when polished and shiny, the red (funnily enough) shifts colour depending on shading. From deep blood red in the tank scallops to almost fire engine red on the single seat cover. Side by side, the BLACK one looks pretty hmmm tired. Only in my opinion of course.

In 2004 I wanted the Shift Red R1, but when 2005 rolled around and they had the black avalible I had to have it. I love black vehicles, my last bike ('02 YZF600R) was black, my Grand National is black, our Grand Am is black, my Z28 was black, and my truck will soon be black. Sorry I'm not really into loud obnoxious colors or graphics (one reason why I like Yamaha bikes more than say Suzuki), I'll leave the loud colors and graphics for the attention whores and ricers in their Honduhs.
BTW, this is for all the 'Raven' haters... lol
