Why did you choose the R1?

I'm curious as to why you chose the R1 for your current bike?

For example, my last two sportbikes have been GSX-R1000's and I decided on an 08 R1 because it

A) Wasn't a Gixxer
B) Looks amazing and I'd say fit and finish is a definite step higher as well.
C) Believe it or not, I kinda liked the fact that in 2008, the magazines weren't drooling all over it in testing like they did w/ the Kawi 10r and CBR1000rr.

For those of you w/ 09, you obviously cannot use that as the mags love the 09 R1.

Thanks-Matte

R1 has been my dream bike for about 11 years now...

Bought it because im a yamaha freak.. Everything had to be yamaha.. Scooter, Motocross everything. I've had about 10 machines now.. And they have never let me down.. Pure fun..

Bought the 2007 because of the looks... I know magazines didnt like 07/08 that well. but look at it.. its the most sexy bike out there.. I would NEVER concider a Suzuki or a Honda..

I got my 06 because its just damn sexy!! Other than that every body around here rides gixxers and I wanted something different. Also didnt want it to get stolen like my last bike. Not riding the most common bike around cut some of that risk down. Really glad I made the choice I did!

I've ridden bikes on the road since I was 16 and had a few Yamaha's but hadn't had a bike since moving to the States. My sons were over visiting (they both ride too) and they wanted to take back jackets from here so they had something a little different.
So off we went to the dealers to look for jackets and there was the 50th, the colors I remember Yamaha being in my youth.
Well to cut a long story short my purchase of 2 jackets for the kids took about 3 hours and cost me about $10,500.
Mind you it's the best jacket purchase I have ever made :rock:lol

I have been a yamaha nut from an early age, maybe because i learnt to ride on my dads AG100 farm bike.
It took quite a few years for me to get my first Yamaha tho, had hondas, and suzukis early on.
My first R1 an 04 model was my first yamaha, which i got in early 2006.
It just looked so good, what a great bike.
When the 09 came out i wasnt sold on the look at first but after getting one it grew on me pretty quickly, felt very different to the 04 model( in a good way),
I love it.

I had a list of 6 bikes for sale localy that were in my budget, a 929 was at the top, then 4 gixxer 750s or1000s and a r1....lucky for me all 5 bikes were sold that weekend and I ended up w/the r1

I based it on looks and how it felt to me, cause as mentioned I'll never ride it to it's full potential.

I was between a cbr600 or r6, Honda financing wasn't as easy going as yamahas so r6 it was, but my dealer had a 07 r1 that was a left over for a killer deal, and I already loved the looks of the r1, so I jumped on the r1. Haven't killed myself yet

I've raced Yamaha dirt bikes for more years than I should've, and still ride 'em
My first look at an R1 years ago - I fell in lust instantly but took 10 years to act it out
Bought my '02 R1 (still one of the best lookers in my eyes) while I was recovering from knee surgery with swine flu' in bed...bought and delivered all online
The blue R1 just looks right beside my YZs
Always liked big beautiful road bikes
It is pure porn that I can stare at on full display in the garage

no doubt, it is the best looking bike that's ever sat in my garage. :)

My father (who went with me to pick it up on the 1500 mile round trip) when asked by my wife what he thought about it, said "It's pretty sexy". LOL....He's 68 years old!
