Why do yamahas run so hot ? Also should engine temp after engine turned off be disregarded?

Hi I love my Yamaha. I crossed over from Kawasaki. Kawasaki’s are great too. The only thing that bothers the shot out of me is how high the temps get when idling or cruising at slow speeds. I know it’s common with these bikes. Everyone I know that has an r1 or R6 said it’s normal. I mean temps in the 220s make me nervous.....and then when I shut the bike off the temps go up from there. Sometimes it’ll reach 240 when off and the warning light will flash

is the engine temp when the bike is off not relevant since the cooloant isn’t circulating(because engine is off)?
Thanks

You still have the cats? Makes a big difference.

Thanks guys. All fluid levels are good. Temps stay within range when bike is running. I removed the cats and actually the bike runs better and a bit cooler and better. I have a friend with a 2020 r1m with cats installed and he has had his temps go up and over 240 when stopped. that has never happened to me except when I turn the bike off when it’s hot

now I know not to worry about the temp when the bike is not running BUT STILL why doesn’t Yamaha have the fans kick in a little sooner. Boom problem solved Again I say my Kawasaki’s never went over 215 and that was rare

it must have something to do with the cross plane setup as well.....This bike reminds me of a Ducati so much

I will definitely look into the fan switch !

no the bike can’t be tuned yet and piggy back setups just seem so outdated to me and sloppy

Thanks

My 01 runs hot too. The fan comes on at 222* and turns off at 212*. I think that is pretty high really

interesting also is the fact that if I barely crack the throttle, say to about 1500 rpms (idle is 1150) the fan will come on. This happens no matter the coolant temp, hot or cold.
