From what I have noticed about Ducati's is that they a very good track bikes cuz up suspension etc. But arent they very slow. I raced a very on my last bike (2005 cbr 600rr) and killed them all by alot of lengths. One of which was a 999r or s. Either wya that thing should have at least kept up with me. I played around with one in the hills one time also, and had no problem keeping up with him. Talk to the rider and said he was very experiance. I beleived him also cuz his knee pucks were scuffed up, and he did scrap a few knees while I was with him. I just dont see why you should spend 20+k on a bike that is out performed by something you can get for about 8 grand or less.

umm ok my little grasshopper...Ducati motorcycles do not have the same engine as your typical crotch rocket you see on the street (kawasaki, yamaha, suzuki) they use V-twin engines except for the Desmocedici, they are available to the public for a short time..did you know? ..have you ever heard a ducati? your yamaha is a 4 cylinder . the end

So what you are saying is that they sound good but they are slow and over priced. Ducati's sound REALLY good for that 1 second you are near them. Then they sound like every other V-twin, they get real faint in the background.:sneaky

Still not convinced about them. Ok they sound great. Nothing like a whole bunch of rattling. To be honest they really dont sound that good. Stock that is. I seen one all done up and it was the best sounding bike i have ever heard. But power wise Im not convinced.

I agree, they sound awesome at idle, but once the revs start to climb it sounds like a fart.
And yeah they are v-twin, hard to get more power out of a v-twin than a inline four. I personally cant justify any reason for me to get a new ducati over a new Jap bike. Just my opinion:)

Although the new 1098 looks good!

I think if they take Ducatis styling and put Liter bike motor in it, they would have one hell of a bike. Seems like all 40k goes to the suspension and styling...Oh and being able to say you have a "Ducati".

If they are so slow, why do people get them. Also, what is up with the Ducati race bike, and team. Never really looked into them. Are they any good. Only winners I see are Gsxr's and Yamai's

well some people like slow bikes, who knows really? as far as the Ducati race team yeah they are a bunch of loser...the Desmocedici the bike they use for GP is crap anyways...if you see GSXRs and "yamai's" like you said...well what's does that tell you, they are the best man!

Different rides for different folks. Some people like Chevys some like BMWs. Ducatis aren't that slow, they've won a sh1tload of races. I would think that given the cost and complexity of a Ducati that the people who ride them have enough age and money that they don't need to try and race every friggin "young, dumb, and full of cum" 19 year old on a gixxer they don't need to prove anything. Besides a good rider on a Buell will embarass a squid everytime.

I see where your coming form if the person has the money. But even them. When your shovling out that much money, wouldnt you expect a whole hell of alot more performance. Hell, go by a R1 for 10k then use the other 30 for a car. I dont know, doesnt seem worth it at all.

I have a feeling you are BSing men JDPT2. Your sig is littered with Ducati. If your not BSing me, why are you clowning on them yet you have them on your sig.

I guess I should chime in. I'm getting rid of my Duc for a bunch of reasons. A Ducati is not a bike you want to own if you are pinching pennies. When you are getting major services every 6k, the price of ownership is high. I think for the street, the 999 is better than the 749. The 749 just doesn't have the power to hang with Jap 600's. On a tight track (Loudon, NH), the 749 is a great bike. At a recent trackday, I had jap 600's passing me all day long on the straight. When we hit the corners, I was all over them. I do like the fact that you don't see a ton of Ducati's around. If I wanted to own two or three bikes, I would keep it. I only want one bike, so I'm getting the 07 R1.

Forst off, that is a sweet bike. But I bet you didnt spend close to 30-40 k on it did you?

This sounds way better to me..."Hey man nice R1, bet shes a blast to ride? How fast have you gone?"

Or
"Hey man nice Ducati, how much it run you." This is typically the reactions I have seen when Ducati riders are asked about their bike.

Well, my buddy has a 04 Duc 999 we are always doing roll ons "he is always pulling up to me wanting to race. Gotta say on a roll on about 60-70 in 6th gear he pulls me by about 1/2 to 1 bike lenght but after my RPM's get up it's seeeeeeeeeeeyaaaaaa. now if I am in fourth gear theres no chance. It is a good looking bike but not for me.:lhumper:
