my girlfriend, two other friends and i decided to ride out to the broken oar in island lake, il today. after a great ride out and some great burgers for lunch we headed back home. knowing that the cops there are pricks we rode super cool. cop sees us at light and pulls a u-turn to follwow us. i'm riding about 100 yards ahead of the other 3 and watch this dick cross double yellow lines to pass others one at a time. as soon as he passes them he hits his lights and catches up to me to pull me over. at this point i know im tagged for expired sticker(18 days expired). the shoulder is gravel so i pull over on the flair of an asphalt driveway. he points at every one else to pull over. they all stop on driveway. i try to reason with this dick but i know its not gonna work. home owners now pull up and my girlfriend and other friend now have to move their bikes. the cop then tells me he's writing me a citation for no sticker and im getting pissed. then as my girlfriend is getting off her bike the kickstand sinks in gravel and they both fall over. i run over and help girlfriend and stand her bike up(both ok). i walk up to the cop and lay into him b/c last year the same prick did the exact same thing and almost ran into my other friend. i told him he was a bad cop and that dealing with him was the most dangerous thing we did all day and that i remembered he pulled the same bs last yeay and almost hurt some one.

the fact that he pulled us over on a busy street(45mph), and unsafely passed my freinds to get to me was wrong. i agree i should have the sticker, but to endanger us and the other motorist and bikers trying to get by is bs. he had no reason to turn around and follow us in the first place. that shithead had no reason for his extream actions. i called him a bad and dangerous cop about 20 times.

also his "back up" is informing me that everything is being video taped. i told them. "great show it to your supevisor or the mayor, that guy is a bad cop".

then these two idiots cant even turn their cars around to follow another group of bikes headed in the other direction. in doing so they stop traffic in bith directions fo about 30 seconds. at that point i yell," you guys cant even drive your CARS".

one of these days the dumbass cop is going to hurt someone on a bike.......that will be a sad day.

thank you for letting me vent,

Dennis

Well he pulled you over for expired tabs. I thinks that in most states that is reason enough for a traffic stop. I did not get how he endangered you by pulling you over. Yea, he crossed the double yellow line but that is what the lights were for. If anything he endangered himself and motorist going the other way if there were any. Are you implying that it is the officers fault that your gilfriend put her side stand down in gravel and then dumped it? What exactly is your complaint? Not trying to flame but it is just not clear to me.

ahh, the joys of owning a sportbike...nothing like getting pulled over every spring, no better way to start off the riding season then with a couple of traffic stops:lol

I don't know how it is where you're from, but here we have a thirty day grace period after the expiration date.

Dang , too bad you ran into this guy again. But on the real , he got you honest. Not sayin he was'nt a prick about it, if all he's got to do all day is write tickets. But...........your tag was expired like you said 18 days ago. Hell, my tag is expired too and I fully expect to get rammed in the butt if someone calls me on it. But you knew just like I do , as soon as you jumped on the bike to ride today that the tag was expired. I already got my lie just in case, because I just got my bike out of storage right before every ride.

In any case , just like I tell everyone else here. Irregardless of the ticket, if you felt like you were wronged by an officer you should report it to his agency. When you don't then the next guy gets the same sheotty treatment that you did and you helped by making him feel safe doing it.:fact

Yeah, you should file a complaint if you think what he did was wrong. I know here in SF that complaints stay in a cops file.
That's everywhere, my IA file looks like a small phonebook :lol 10yrs of sex , lies and videotape.

my problem with the cop is that he had no reason to turn around and follow us in the first place. even if i did have my new sticker he still would have passed my friends in a dangerous way to get to me. last year he did the same thing. we all had our tags but he almost hit one of us. if you dont think that is total bs then what is. he must do the same thing all day long. eventualy some one is going to get hurt. and im sure hes pulled guys over that he had nothing on. that is putting citizens in a dangerous position. i know its my own fault for not having the stcker, but 90% of this bullshit happens even if i did.

one last thing, my friend asked why he turned around to follow us and the cop said b/c there might be a warrant for his arrest outstanding.....then why did he pass him to get to me? you would think that someone with a warrant would be a better colar then the guy with expiered plates. that is a bad cop. that proves he is out to harrass bikers.

EXACTLY..

Exactly!!! I got enough beef with the cops man... just read my back-posts... cops in NYC would probably try to confiscate your bike because lack of registration might be considered terrorism or something fuucking ridiculous!!!

If it makes you feel any better, it just goes to show you how well liked we are as sportbikers- last year I got pulled over 5 times because of the license plate bracket that came with my undertail on my YZF... so after all this shit, I decide to fabricate my own braket which puts the plate out to the side RIGHT SIDE UP ANY READABLE (meaning not sideways, like some harleys have it [and don't get busted for]) and first fuucking ride of this season I get pulled over by some dickwad cop- I was doing 30 ON THE DOT in a 30 - I ask the cop what did i do wrong? he's like "your license plate is illegal" I don't even bother explaining 5 of his "brother" dickwads were the reason the plate was like this- I'll tell ya, it really sucks being hated all over- I feel like buying an island and closing it off to all but sportbikers...

I totally symapthize with you guys. My first ride of the season, a few weeks ago, I was crusing the strip at the beach. I saw another guy on a bike hanging out under a tree, sitting on a picnic table. So I pull up and we chat for 20 minutes or so. During that time he pointed out a cop to me, waiting near the exit of the park. I thought nothing of it. It started to cool off so I decided to head home. I walk over to my bike and I notice the cop fire up his car. I get my helmet and gloves on and throw a leg over the bike, fire it up and put it in gear. I look both ways and the cop is crusing over towards me, again i think nothing of it. I start rolling away. All of a sudden the cop floors it towards me and turns his lights on. So I stop and he gets out yelling at me telling me to turn the bike off, etc. He then asks me why I was trying to run from him.... I'm like WTF?!?! The guy I was talking to walks over (I'm not more than 3 inches from where I was when the bike was parked) and he's like, whats up officer.... so the cop harrasses the 2 of us for 10-15 minutes... running our plates, insurance and licenses. The cop then proceeds to point out all the 'illegal' parts of my bike. To which I repsond, either gimme a ticket and I'll see you in court, or gimme my license back so I can leave. He gives me back my stuff then leaves. What an ass. FTP!!! :rant

You can always have sex with his mom :)

I think most of you are missing his point. :2bitchsla

He admitted to being a dumbass and not paying his dues...what he was bitching about was that the cop took extraordinary measures to get him and endangering lives at the same time.

Of course...I do have to side with the masses a bit by saying that you should have paid them bro. Could have avoided the whole mess. :2bitchsla

Few Issues, no offense to Solidus, but cops do it to themselves, we bikers are the first ones to step up and say someone is doing something stupid,

with cops it is the blue wall, all will defend all, period.

Ever notice it is always a clean shoot?

As far as filing a complaint, in my experiance it is useless, there is a city around here (Cary for those in NC) where the cops are more like gestopo, than LEO. I have filed numerous complaints with witnesses to direct violations of the law, and they always say, its clean they did nothing wrong.

Solidus, your an LEO, is it legal to search someone for weapons, find one (I have a ccw and forked it over first thing) then draw your weapon put it to the guys head and tell him that he will be shot if he brings a gun into the town again? All on video, and according to their IA all legal.

The same department also killed a biker on the freeway not too long ago, cop lite the guy up, and while he was trying to get over, cop got inpatient and rammed his rear tire, kid got killed, cop is still on the force.

I like most cops, most cops are good cops, the problem I have is the good cops cover for and make excuses for the bad ones.

Chances are that you were on the piece of roadway that he patrols. It is not uncommon or unethical to follow someone in hopes of spotting a violation. You obliged him with your expired tabs. It is not like you were going to work or picking up a sick child from school, which would warrant you some empathy. You were out on a pleasure ride with friends. Getting burgers. And as for the harassment, it is not easy. In California we average one officer for every 2000 people. About 60% of those officers are on patrol where they do most of the harassing. One fifth of that 60% are on duty at any given moment and available for harassing people. So one duty cop is responsible to harass about 10,000 residents. When you toss in the commercial, business and tourist locations that attract people from other areas, sometimes they have have a single situation where a single cop is responsible to harass 20k people a day.

A 10 hour shift runs 36,000seconds. This gives a cop one second to harass each person and three fourth of a second to eat a donut and find a new person to harass. This is no easy task. Most cops can not keep up this pace and use some tools to narrow down who they harass. Example:

Telephone: People will call with things that cause the focus on a person for special harassment "My neighbor is beating his wife" or "the kids next door are having a party"

Cars: Usually handled by special cops assigned to harass people who drive. They like to harass the drivers of fast cars, cars blasting music, cars with expired registration and the like. I guess it is fun to pick them out of traffic for nothing more obvious than running a red light. Sometimes they get to really heap the harassment on when they have drugs, are drunk or have a warrant.

Codes: Penal, Vehicle, Health and Safety. They all spell out all sorts of things for which a cop can mess with people. After a cop learns the code they can drive around untill they find someone violating one of these listed offenses and harass them. Just last week a cop saw a guy smash a car window. There must be a code that says that that is not allowed because the cop got to harass the guy.

Overall is guess it is a good system. There seems to be a never ending supple of folks to harass.
