There is a huge misconception about Power Commander's, especially on this forum. A power commander is just an alternate fuel control module, it is not a power adder or some magical box that will add 15hp. Your bike comes tuned from the factory with general, universal fuel numbers in mind. That being said, climate, atmospheric pressure and and altitude will play a big part in untuning those numbers depending on where you are located on the globe. For instance. An 06 R1 will have certain characteristics in an area that is close to the ocean like California and at 0' above sea level. Take that same bike and run it in Denver Colorado and you will see the characteristics change significantly. The bike will struggle to make the same power and have issues in cooling, torque and throttle response. Adding a power commander gives you the ability to fine tune those fuel numbers so that your ECU is adding more/less fuel at each stage of RPM to accommodate the excess/lack of air intake to reach the perfect Air/fuel ratio. In all reality to achieve this you would need a dyno tune to maximize those numbers to create the perfect map for your bike in it's region. There are downloadable maps that you can pull from the website, but using one is just a crap shoot since you really don't know where the tune was done. These can actually create problems by making the bike run too rich or lean.
Is a PC worth the money? It really just depends on where you are and what the plan is for the bike.
My suggestion if you want excellent throttle response, adjust the throttle cables and eliminate the slack so that there is no dead spot. Change your gearing by going down one tooth on the front sprocket (from 17 to 16) then get a set of Factory pro velocity stacks, Cat eliminator pipe and a BMC filter. Then spend the money and get a PC or Bazzaz (I prefer the Bazzaz, better fine tuning) and get it dyno tuned by a reputable tuner. It will be a completely different bike.
