"Went to the crash site bout an hour ago. Found a shoe, right headlight, many peices of body moldings, brake resivoir, and inner front plastics for the radiator. Pretty bad wreck! Took out 3 6x6 gaurd rail posts and 5 feet of gaurd rail. Bike was easy 100+ yards from first contact point."

Damn, how fast was he going? And from the posts, it appears that he was on an R6.

R.I.P.

It's not the bike..the bike is tremendous. Just not for a first bike. This incident appears to be a 2006 R6, new rider, took a corner faster then he should have...

The problem is that these bikes look awesome, and people say that "if you respect them, it's ok" that is just not the case. There will come a time when something happens too fast for you to react within your skillset.. and these two bikes are ruthless when that happens. They'll both get you into trouble faster then an SV650 or similar..and thats the danger.. Any bike can get you killed.. You'll need to respect them all.. but if you're just starting out, try one that won't be so...hard edged..

I totally agree David. :stpd: You know as well as I do about our State. It's getting really crazy here with new "Know it all" squid riders on sportbikes.

Driven 37 down to Nashville, Ind several times and was busting my brain trying to think of anything on 37 I could recall as a curve that a rider of almost any experience level couldn't handle. Sounds like he had NO business on ANY bike imo.......sad news.

RIP Rider....

I hope he was wearing a helmet instead of trying to be cool.

I guess I answered my own question. Sounds like he was being a "NumbaOne Stunta" and although had a helmet, he thought it would be cooler to have it strapped to the side of his bike.

No helmet? Guy goes out and buys that type of bike, and brand new helmet ,and doesnt even wear it to protect his mellon.

to be fair if you read the whole attached threads he was wearing a helmet, was riding an r6, had no licence or insurance.

police 'speculate' he may have been going to fast, and clearly either way the guy 'thought' he was going too fast, target locked and lost control.

an r6 in the lower rev range (i.e. sub 8-10) isn't particularly more powerful than an sv, hornet etc. its only in the upper range. when you're a newb, you tend to short shift anyway (you're sure not used to revving to 16 grand if you drive a car). if you buy a new one you're supposed to break it in for the first 1000 miles under 7 grand anyway. as for a SV being better, if anything twins are deceptive as they dont feel they're going fast compared to a 4 from experience.

aside from the very daft aspect of buying a bike without being trained (you cant in the UK) its just sad.

you cant decide whether you're mature enough to ride a bike. you need to be taught. remember the mess you made of controlling a car when you started out? I sure do. and that doesn't fall over or countersteer....
