Hey guys,
Does anyone know what are the WIDEST possible tire combo for a 1998-99 R1 vs. 1998-98 R6 ?

Are the R6 tires just as wide ?

I'm not sure I understand what you are trying to accomplish with this post...but if you are trying to find the widest tire for your R1/R6 for purely aesthetic reasons, then look no further than the Dunlop 207 street compound.

This is typically the stock tire found on most of the Yamahas. They may look cool, but take it from me, and others on this board I'm sure, they handle like crap. The trade-off will be slow steering vs. better "looks."

Oh...the R1 has a 6" rear vs. 5.5" for the R6. I'm assuming you're not sure what will fit. Well...the 6" wheel will take up to a 200mm tire (I'm not sure why you would want to do this)...and the 5.5" will take up to a 190mm. Clearance problems shouldn't be an issue; however, the bike will handle like a Freightliner.

Either way...good luck.

Minchan,

Boy you said it. Aren't those wheels incredible?

That's what I love about technology...there's always going to be something better before you know it.

It's only money, right? Now if I could find some lying around...

:D

The '03 R6 wheels may bolt up anyways...I'm also exceedingly curious about the fit. Since I run a 180-size on the rear of my '02 R1 the slightly narrower 5.5" back wheel shouldn't be an issue. I just hope that I won't have to have some spacers machined if the R6 swingarm is indeed a little narrower.

It looks like yamaha is copying the Marvic wheel
But probably cheaper and for more street reliability. I would never run magnesium wheels on the street, too fragile, and it is still advised to get them inspected annually. This includes X-rays to detect hidden cracks.
