Hey guys I have a front Renthal 309u-520-15p which states good to 2014 R1 and I've looked up for the 2016 which is imposible to find it shows 309v-520-15p I've been told they're the same I've looked up a vortex front sprocket and they say good from 98-16 I just want to double check before cutting the chain.

Thanks in advance, Chuck

There was a big issue about this... where aftermarket front sprockets would have to be flipped to work on 15+ R1. Maybe stock fits but I wouldn't chance it.

Well know I'm really confused hahaha... I have a trackday Saturday and if I cut the chain and need another front sprocket it will never be here in time and I'm with stock gearing now.

Does anyone remember when they switched out their front sprocket if is was one specifically and only for 15+?

Here's another thought... 15+ has 525 chain stock while 98-14 have 530 stock. So no it won't fit unless you are changing everything to 520 or 530.

Yes I'm doing the whole 520 conversion, I just don't want to cut my 525 chain and be stuck with the 520 chain and a front sprocket that doesn't fit, the week of a trackday. I'm sure 100's of people have done the 520 conversion just want to make sure that sprocket works

Yamaha part numbers for front sprocket -

15-16 = 2CR-17460-00-00

09-14 = 3C3-17460-00-00

07-08 = 4C8-17460-00-00

After seeing these part numbers, I will now say... it will fit.

I'm pretty sure the 15-17 R1/R1M use a different front sprocket as they are 525 pitch. I bought a Renthal one from the UK a couple years ago and it was 2015 specific. Case in point just google and see things like this all over:

Vortex Yamaha YZF-R1 15-16 525 Steel Front Sprocket - Sportbike Track Gear

I kept the 525 OEM chain and rear sprocket though if that matters. Not sure what you need to do if you want to convert the entire set up to 520.

I'm currently having a similar problem. I have renthal 15 onwards front sprocket and it just does not go on properly but I also have the 14 and previous and it slides straight on fine just like the standard. Thing is the two new Renthal sprockets have different offsets so how can it be fine to use?!

I had a tough time when I bought the 15 R1, nobody was making the 520 sprockets and took the dealer two times ordering the wrong ones. Finally used Driven and got the right ones. I know for sure the rear is DIFFERENT.
