WTF....did I get a dud?

I mostly lurk on here soaking in the info and it seems that something is not right.

My butt tells me this bike is fast like hell, so Im happy in that sense.

But the dyno says otherwise.

dyno'ed stock at 146, frined with a CBR1000 dynoed 144 same day same dyno right after mine.

He put on a full system Arrow pipe which he got from someone he knows, and is HRC spec, and he jumped to 158 hp w/o a powercommander!!

I've put on the graves titanium slip ons and it did 150 w/o powercommander.

I put my commander in last night, and loaded the graves ti map from powercomander.com and it initially read 145 hp. But it was very rich, so he did some basic tuning on the pc and got a final # of 150.4

What I think is decent, is it really is around 153 maybe 154 because it was dynoed with a brand new pilot power which is super stupid sticky and it looses power on the dyno.

I've seen a lot of bikes start at 150 stock and then hit 156-159 with the mods I have, so whats the deal?

Im happy with the bike, but the paper #'s sorta suck... Different weather I supose no?

No sireee bob.

Which is why I mentioned that I was still happy with the bike.

Every dyno is different.

Most of the guys here in south FL race top end or 9/10ths of a mile, which I dont do. So the overall HP# doesnt really mean that much, but did seem odd to see bikes with so much more HP than me with the same exact mods.

Wish there was some track event coming up soon here. Mid January seems earliest.

Yeah there are all sorts of "tricks" to get more HP on the dyno.

And slutty I think the guy with the CBR would get me.

Since then he's gotten the HRC ECU from Dan Kyle, added BMC filter and more improtantly he's changed the gearing.

If I REALLY REALLY wanted to, I could go to the 16t front, but I like the way the bike is geared, and Im not gonna change something just to beat him.

I am curious how they compare though.

And btw the only reason I keep bringin up the CBR1000 is that in all the magazines I saw, even though the #'s themselves were different, none had the CBR that close to the R1 on power. Which is what made me wonder if my bike is more dudley.

And I followed the proper steps for breakin. took er easy for 1st 600 miles.

Yeah I hate when my 'sticky' tyres makes my bike go slow, thats why I rub in a good coating of oil now before every ride
:thumbup

o.k flat, remain composed........ahem, ah how may I ask, do you figure that your tyres are so 'sticky' that it takes away power??

You'll note I said they lose power on the DYNO. I never said they make my bike slow.

Because they are so sticky that they give the drum more rolling resistance than my older tires did, thereby introducing a new variable.

Try rolling a small cylinder on a countertop.

Then roll it through some caramel and then roll it on the countertop.

Now tell me Im full of shit. :p

I got my numbers to 140 on my 02 but, was wanting at least 146+. In reality it didn't happen. What did happen was that my power curves were smoother than what I started. So , in the end I was very happy because I could just roll on it and it will just pull from go.

Another thing is air ram, you have more hp than what is on paper. People think that just because the magazine or the dyno sheet reads big number that they are faster than the next guy. That's what a desk monkey uses to bragg. End result is if one guy can just plain outride the next guy. Then you can decide who's numbers mean squat. Like Slutty said, line em' up and have at it!

If you think that the guy will beat you just because he has a BMC blah blah blah, then he already beat you just by the mind set.

Best thing to do is put it on a track and just out ride him!

My .02

YES YOU ARE FULL OF SHIT

I dont think rolling a drum through caramel fer chistsakes is anywhere similar to bwahahahaha a new tyre!!! OMG Im reading this out to the guys at work and they are in tears from laughing so much!!! And some people wonder why I get worked up about the amount of crap/mis informed and just plain stupid shit that gets posted on here:crash

Oh my God ! Go refresh Highschool Physics dude . Your tire is propelling the dyno drum the drum ain't powering the bike tire . Now if the Drum turns to syrup ya got a problem . A hard tire will slip on the drum causing loss of power maybe , but not the other way around ..

I am at 153.89hp bone stock exept the removal of the cat.sorry to hear you had to spend alot of money to get there. The real point is if it feels fast....it is.and worring about that diff. being the cause of your lost race to your buddy????well I wish I could use that one but I get smoked by guys on 600's every time I hit the twisties.I dont think that it's becouse they have figured out ways to make the 600 more powerful than my 1.or maybe it is...ya I bet that is it!and all this time I thought they were just riding better than me................huh?:dunno

Ok, a worn piece of shit tire is going to grip as well as a sticky pilot power.

I realize my example was exaggerated but you're plain retarded if you cant see how the grip of a tire affects HP ON A DYNO.

Im making no correlation what so ever with real world power. You will NOT notice anything or lose any power on the street.

Its a proven FACT that if you lube a chain like crazy, you will gain 1-2 hp on the dyno.

The tire's diameter also has something to do with the power reading, there are many factors that deal with how a dyno reads power, and if you dont think rolling resistance has anything to do with the number then you're crazy. Laugh all you want.

I thought it would be because there is less air in a new one that it is heavier. Once it is worn the rubber expands letting more air in and hence making it lighter, less centripical force. :rock

And why the hell did this turn into an argument over if the sticky tire made a loss of HP?

I saw a bike on the dyno before the tire change, and later on the same bike on the same dyno with a new pilot power, lose power.

Again, I could give a rats ass about how much power my bike makes in the end.
I said a few times that Im happy with it, and have no interest in racing it top end or whatever.....so why all the flames?

I was wondering if the #'s themselves seemed a little low to anyone else. Whatever....back to lurking

O.K I'll humour you a little more. On a dyno there is no additional resistance caused by friction because gravity is remaining constant at 1G. So the only thing that would alter the friction would be contact patch. Yes lubing a chain will improve gains because it reduces friction, and yes increasing the diametre of your tyre (therefore increasing the contact patch and therefore friction level) will reduce gains. But to say your new tyre is sooo sticky that is reduces power is just stupid, embarassing and sounds like a school yard debate. BTW how old are you??

That other guy had the right idea, maybe your new tyre has too much air in it, pretty heavy stuff that air, could be loosing tons of power bwhahahahahaha

Please keep it up, me and the guys are getting sore stomachs from laughing!!:bow
