I hear/read about it all the time, I even went to the website.
It looks like a twisty mtn road, I understand that part. But it also looks like it may be some kind of MC resort? If it's a public road, are ther cars, too? Speed limits? How about cops? It seems as if the place would be crawling with po-po.
What's the story, boys?

Its the largest GAP store in the world and you can get really good deals there.

:lol

ok maybe not.

Its actually a location down south in the Carolina's I believe that is the most well known place to test out your carving skills. Its supposed to be something like 15 miles or so of twisties, and supposedly something like 1000 turns within that 15 miles. They call it the dragon. I've never been there but I'm sure a lot of people on this forum has.

The DEAL with DEALS GAP

I'm sure some of the local guys can give you more details but this is what my experiance tells.

I've been there twice, one year apart. Both times during the Honda Hoot. It's just a road that got famous due to it's many many turns in a concentrated area. Sports cars enjoy it to but it is open to the puplic. ANd yes there are cops there at times. There is a hotel on the South side that is a Motorcycle resport. The store is cool and it's coll to check out but it's not what comes to mind when you hear the word resort. There are no palm trees at Deals Gap. If you even get the chance, ride it, and ride it back and forth. it can't be described or understood if you haven't experianced it. :rock

Deals Gap is US 129 crossing the NC TN Border. Someone counted and the claim is 318 curves in 11 miles. There are cops, especially on the weekends, but there are so many other great roads in the area to ride so that you can literally come and ride for a long weekend, not get bored, and go home needing new tires:D :D

The speed limit on the TN side is 35, but this is not a high speed road. I had a pretty good time just riding a pretty steady 45 through the dragon.

Go if you get the chance:thumbup

the dragon won

i just got back from there a month ago, and put my bike in the ditch at around 50 mph. My bike blew up pretty good, but only plastics at 6000$ in repair. it is still in the shop and should be done next week. i am still in physical therapy for my shoulder which i messed up pretty good. if you go to homelandsportbikes.com and to the pics section you can see my corner of doom and other pics from the area. if you go during the week like i did, i didn't see a single cop while riding. in all reality people speed in the gap, but even if a cop saw you he could never catch up. there is awsome riding throughout the whole area, and highly recomened it. i wil return in april!!!!! the dragon will lose!!!!!!!!!!!:finger

rookie mistake

not having many curves here in the greater detroit area, was my biggest problem. i havn't the most experience in the twisties. i rode some out if california, but not a whole lot. i was doing just fine, even scraping pegs on occasion and lost my chicken strips on both the front and back tire. I get the hang of things quickly and am not scared to lay my bike over. anyways, i come aroun this corner pretty good and to my suprise there are 2 guys in the middle of the road looking at their bike which is also in the road. there is no shoulder at the gap, so a bike on the white line is in the road to me, with these 2 chuckleheads in the middle looking at their damage because just a few minutes before he went in the ditch with a ducati. this all happened with a turnout 20 yards away. they couldn't move their bike and get out of the corner, oh no, so when i come around, instead of holding my line like i should i locked 'em up, stood straight up and said hello to the side of the hill. by the time me and my friends got my bike out, which i actually rode in pain all the way back to motorcyclecabin.com, the other 2 guys up and ditched outta there maybe thinking we all were going to kick the shit outta them? either way i hurt and by bike took a good beating and (KEN WHEELER) up at the bike store in robinsville or whatever gave me a free asphault surfer liscence plate holder!!!!!!!!!!!

GOTTA KEEP RIDING, FIRST WRECK, I WAS DUE!!!!!!!!!

The Dragon is the best place on the east coast to ride. It is incredibly dangerous to people who THINK they can ride. It has sleepers that turn into slammers within the same curve. Here's the best advise I can give. Actually it is my motto for ridding the Dragon.

If you can't see through it, don't accelerate through it.

I'll attach a couple pics. from this year. :rock
