Imo, each bike has its strong and weak points. Its a matter of finding what best suits you and your riding style.

R1 is a piece of junk but has the nicest logo and comes in yellow so I bought one :fact

It depends on which make and model. It's much faster than a honda trail 80, but it gets owned by an aprilia RS80.

 

If a motorcycle has to "grow" on you, then I don't think you're really enjoying the sport.

I've never ridden any motorcycle that wasn't fun. 2 wheels and an engine is a guaranteed recipe for a smile...every time.

Slap a turbo on it. You won't need to be faster, but you will always be the coolest guy at the bike meets in the parking lot... :fact:

 

I have been riding for about 29 years. Owned about a dozen bikes in that time. I always wanted an R1 from the time they came out. Then I jumped on the Harley bandwagon for a little over ten years. Now that I finally owned an R1, I can honestly say that this bike and the Harley Roadking was my two favorite bikes. But I felt soooo old when I rode the Roadking.

 

I can't speak for other liter bikes. My 600RR was the best overall bike, but my R6 was the best handling. I will know in two weeks how well this bike will handle, but overall normal everday riding its awsome.

Sound of the cross plane is awsome. The looks are awsome. Power and delivery is awsome, to much on engine braking in my opinion. I plan on getting the ECU flashed. Not sure how it does on the track.

Its all personal preference, but out of all liter bikes I could own I pick the R1!!

 

All I'll say is there is a reason that the r1-forum is the most visited motorcycle brand forum :fact
