I use to ride a lot, then I got married. :) So, my hobbies went to my car, which turned it into a monster.

It has been a little while since my last bike; and with the current fuel prices I have been looking for some economical transportation. I drive 85 miles a day to work; and the same back. Gas prices have been killing me!

I convinced my wife to let me get a new R1, for I have always liked them. I am 5'6 and 3 quarters (every bit counts!). The R1 has always been comfortable for me to sit on, and figured I would look at the new models.

The cheapest place I found for an 04 was in TN. They offered the bike, brand new, for 9400.00. It was a great deal; but I live in KS. So, after shipping etc, it would bring it to the 10k mark + taxes. Near what the local guys sell them for. I figured I would have to spend another 1k in gear, and the whole speil of economical went out the window with the wife.

So, I inquired on some 03's that dealers wanted to push off the lot. The best price around town, was about 8700.00. I have seen some other 03's go for as low as 8100 on the net, but again; after shipping / taxes / gear; I again was up near 10k.

Bummed out, I found an awesome bike for a reasonable price. It is a 2003 R1, with 4k miles. It has a custom pearl orange paint job with ghost flames (never downed, just to be different), normal integrated turn lamps and undertail, along with a RS-3 Yoshumura full race exhaust and tuned power commander 3.

With the 3 year extended warranty, and having the bike dyno at 150w horsepower; it is sure a rocket!

I will post some pics tonight. I can't wait!

Thanks,
Mike

Congratulations! Enjoy and be safe...and tell the wife you can never spend too much on gear ( exhaust, pcIII, velocity stacks, etc..) it's for your safety :sneaky :thumbup
She has learned about the aftermarket world quite frequently with my RX-7. But in all honesty, while the car could prove a better power to weight than the bike; it is a WHOLE different ball game. I think I would be more than happy with 150 to the wheels on the R1.

Thanks!!
Mike

Looks great, mate! Nice list of specs/add-ons, too.

Personally, if I'm buying a used bike, I go for as close to stock as possible. There's always a rason for a mod, and it's not always "cos I think it'd look better" Also, 150rwhp is pretty high for that bike; I'd make sure those performance mods weren't done with disregard for longevity.

Whatever you decide... welcome back to the 2-wheel world and the R1 forum. Keep us updated, yeah?

Definately. I agree with you, and I was very skeptical as well. When you modify something, it is for a purpose (usually). The previous owner said it was never downed or wrecked, but mentioned he wanted something different. His buddy who was starting a bike/car paint shop did the work.

Originally, the bike had a slip on Micron; which had an exhaust leak. So, the previous owner put on a full exhaust system. He then found out it didn't run quite right, and was forced to purchase the PF3. The bike has always been maintained by Metro Motorsports in AZ, and NVH motorsports did the PF3 & tuning.

The bike also has a 3 year extended warrenty, so I hope everything is golden as it seems. :)

Well, I've had my '04 for less than a month, and I have to admit, getting it was like pulling teeth. I got my first bike at age six, rode my whole life until about age 35. The wife hated the bikes and convinced me to sell them. She told me that I could get any car I wanted- bought a new '02 Porsche 911 Turbo, modded it to about 550 hp at the wheels, but it just didn't compare to a bike.

Begging, pleading, losing 80 pounds, giving up smoking and more begging and pleading and I got my R1.

There are a select few cars that can, in certain aspects of the performance envelope, beat a bike. However, in most aspects the bike wins- I love the video of the race bike beating the F1 car. I have to laugh at my friends who claim to outrun bikes all the time- car game, bike game, I've done both and in 99 out of 100 scenarios the bike wins.

Congrats on the new wheels! Enjoy in good health!

btw an F1 car is faster than any bike on the track, in all aspects.

Damn nice rides. I guess the gas mileage would suck on the mazda :lol :lol

Thanks for the responses.

Yeah, it will be difficult to decide which to drive on a nice weekend. :)

Sandman, did you see the video that I mentioned? Was it just staged? I know that top cars make better times than top bikes at nurburgring north loop, but the video seemed pretty real.
I didnt see the video, I would like to though. Those cars are absolute craziness 1300lbs 800hp, 0-100-0 in 4.5 seconds, 4+ lateral g's. Bikes are limited by sheer physics at that level. They will destrot 99% of everything on the road, but F1 to MotoGp the bike looses.

Sorry if I come across as a pedantic *&&&^$ BUT 'in all aspects' ?
How about this - Highest top speed F1 - 205.6 mph - Ferrari,Highest top speed MotoGP - 216 mph - Ducati.
This,I believe, was at Monza where in MotoGP the top 12 finishers all clocked over 206 mph.

Now,if you're talking pure lap times the I agree - no competition.
But you did say 'in all aspects' ;)

Edited to add : Nice bike mate.Is that ZX10R colours? :D

Just to humor you, they could probably reduce the downforce on the F1 car to get it a little faster than the bike. The C/D of an F1 car is over .75. Regular cars are only around .30.

Nice vehicles man, all the horsepower in the world doesn't matter if it don't lean.

I really dont want to argue here, I love my bike and would prefer to be on 2 wheels all the time, im just saying that with the wheel base of the Gp bike you can only go so fast. And all your stoping is on one 17" 120/70 tire. The car also has a higher corner speed and pulls more than 4 lateral g's (hell of alot of rubber and downforce). Theres just more of everything, rubber, power, and brakes. Top speed is a matter of gearing, Hp and drag where the F1 defiantely has the advantage.

F1 car = 1300 lbs + 170 driver = 1470 lbs / 800 rwhp = 1.8375

MotoGp = 320lbs + 160 rider = 480 / 220rwhp = 2.181

That is also asuming that they can both get the power to the ground evenly, where again the car has the big advantage with the massive amounts of rubber.

I would give my right nut to experience either of these two vehicles but physics is physics.

correct me if im wrong, Id like to know if I am, and sorry for the hijack of this thread :)
