this is going to sound strange, but bare with me here...
i have an R1 2001 - stock (until my vance slip on will arrive, and even so, it will not be that big of a mod)
my friend's got a GSX-R1000, also stock. my weight is 70 kg. he weighs about 140... (i've got to start picking my friends... :) )
we went for a ride before a month ago, and did a little race. (street road, only untill 3rd gear or so)
i kicked his bike like nothing!!! o.k i told to myself, this means nothing, cause in the open road i will only see his tail right?
175 kg with 150 hp vs 170 kg (i still dont believe that the suzuk is lighter. it feels much MUCH heavyer, in sitting and in riding) with 155 hp.
wrong!!!
we went out today for a long race, till the bitter end (untill the road ends, still, its the tiny israel...) :rock
top speed, no cars no nothing. i had at least extra 10 kmh on him!!!
ok, he weighs twice than me but what's going on here???
as i said, we both have stock bikes. i saw 287 kmh on the speedo (but i could do more, the road ended). what's the top speed of the R1? did somebody saw 300?
and whats the suzuk top speed? cause the R1 IS FASTER! PERIOD. if i left any angry GSX owners out there.... sorry. face the truth :finger
btw, what is the top speed in 1st gear? i reached 132 and the engine almost pop a piston :p did somebody saw more?
hey, dont get me wrong. im 25 years old, and not a kid who wants to see top speed and high numbers all the time. its just, you know, this is wht we live for, right? (this, and girls, of course) :eek:wwn3d

Top speed depends as much on aerodynamics as on power. Maybe you"re better at keeping in out of the slipstream?
Your friend"s weight won"t help either:)
I owned an R1000 before the current R1 and the r1000, full normal, was faster for me. I weigh 72 kgs. The top speed difference is very small though and you need to take a good long run too.

Bottom line... that Gixxer IS faster then your R1. No if and or buts about it. The only reason, and I mean the only reason, is the weight difference. Swap bikes and see what happens. Stock Gix 1000 has what 150 rwhp? and your R1.... maybe 135 rwhp. Hands down the gix will whip on your R1 with identical riders on it.

Sorry to spoil your parade! :2bitchsla

15 hp diffrences??? no f*****g way!!!
open any book, and see - 5 hp more and 5 kg less for the suzuki (im talking about 2001 model) so i doubt if he can pass me so easy as you say. either way, now i've got 1 less gsx to destroy :rock
and still, what is the stated top speed for those two?

hey! im not cocky! im just enjoing my new 1000 cc sport bike (after 5 years on a great great great ninja 600)
i dont hate suzuki. they create wonderfull bikes.
as for the hp differences, well, you're wrong. no way there is 15 hp between them. as i said, 5-8 max!

Lets get real with the horsepower numbers......

Taken from Sport Rider Website that keeps accurate numbers on all bikes they have demo'd.

HP for Gixxer 1000, 2001 = 141.3

HP for R1, 2000 (same as 2001) = 127.8

These are at the wheel and not at the crank like all those wannabe fast Civic and acura drivers quote all the time.

you seem cocky, but i hate suzuki's so go you.
i agree i like any story that bashes suckzukis, sick and tired of suzuki this and suzuki that, fact is that even if they have a little bit more power we r1 owners know that we have a much better looking bike. and my 04 has more power than an 04 gsxr so f them.... :rock

Ohh what's that 13.5 hp :eek:wwn3d

What's the problem here? If you are a gixxer man then you will buy the thou, if not then you'll buy one of the others. All the litre bikes really are that good. You pays yer money, picks yer colour and makes your choice. I'd go for the bike that has the best dealer in the area, you cant over estimate good service.

Very True brother. I would like one of each of the litre bikes :rock

I love my R1 still. Looks, asthetics, performance. They're all good. :D

will all of you just shut up??? this is my thread! :lol
so, for the figures, my man, you must have checked a 2004 gsx vs the 2000 R1 cause no way there are 13.5 hp between them.
and as for the choice between any other liter bike on the galaxy or the R1 i pick (and picked) the R1.
fyi, the gsx is cheeper here in israel (just a little though) and i still bought the R1. you know why? cause it makes me smile!
the gsx (and all other suzuk's for that matter) looks like... well, it lookes like a bike. the R1 (and you can choose any year 98-05) looks like a dream!!! while yamaha is getting more and more amazing, the gsx (and look at the 05 model... what the f*** is this ugly s***???) is ordinary. period.
although its proven, that the gixxer has a stronger engine (still, not 13.5 hp stronger, maybe 5, and i insist on that. double check your data please) the R1 is stronger in everything else!
looks, gas consumption (who cares about that??!!!), handeling, wheelie's!!!, accesories, and on and on.... REMEMBER: YOU CAN RIDE THE GIXXER, BUT YOU'RE FALLING IN LOVE WITH THE R1!
the gixxer is a bike, the R1 is THE BIKE!

Sorry Ninja9, but even though I agree the Gsxr is ugly it still has a lot more power than any R1 except the 2004 version.
My 2001 gsxr full normal would pull into the red zone in 6th gear on the track => 300kph+.:bow
I"ve also owned a 02 R1 and it would top out at about 290kph on the same track. :blush
Top speed is where bhp difference really somes into play. There is definitely more than 5bhp difference.
Who cares about top speed though? Its through the corners that you make up time.:rock

uhhh.... i was owned... wasnt beat badly... but.... i gotta give it to the new gixxers... those 1000's have some power.:crash

my used 2001 cost 18500$, HOW SAD IS THIS HUH??!!!!!
i've got a lot of time to save..... :(
but still... i kicked that suzuki ass, so.....

Last season when I had my bike dynoed, a 03 GSXR 1000, with PCM mod, and I think a slip on also dynoed.

He dynoed like 140RWHP.. and he came up to me, and said, hey my bikes fuel injected, and yours is carbed.. and I was like yeah.. so..
and then hes like, pretty amazing concidering your bike only was 4hp lower.

I dynoed 136RWHP with a D&D slip on.
