not so sure

SpidermanSS, I know you carry alot of water around here. Unless I totally got the wrong impression from the dealer it will be available in Japan as well.

If what you mean by only is that the YZF-R125 will only be available in Europe in addition to Japan then I think your right on. :)

I was in Japan on vacation for 15 days about 2 weeks ago and stopped in at the local cycle shop.

The Japanese will see this bike in the spring of '08. The price will be 50,000 JPN.

Everyone keeps asking why it won't come here? I bet alot of it has to do with most people who SHOULD buy one vs. an R1 or R6 would not. Those that WOULD buy it if left with no other choice will buy the R1 or the R6. It all comes down to :dollar for Yamaha and their dealers I bet.

The only way I see it coming to the states is for race reasons to keep Yamaha's name in the public eye.

With any luck I can go to Japan in a few years and buy one used or even new...but at 50,000 JPN the cost is pretty high.

I'm not sure if they are actually illegal in the US, or just dealers don't bring them here because they don't think they will sell. The RSR Phoenix is 125cc and is supposed to be street legal here in the US. I mean, basically, it's a scooter with a sportbike look to it.
I've been looking and that's the only 125 I can find in the US. No CBR125, no Aprilia RS-125, and no YZF-R125.

I'd buy one if they bring it over.

I'd buy one in a heart beat. Here in L.A. my commute 6.7 miles takes me over 30min (by cage). And, can you imagine what kinda mileage a 125cc would get.

I thinks that's the real reason they don't bring them over here. "They" are killing us at the gas pump. Those little 125's might cut in to the oil companies profits. :fact:

I'm planning on buying an '08 Ninja 250 for my GF to learn on, but would really prefer a 125 for my son to start learning on. I really don't see any legal reason not to have 125s here in the US (the CBR125 is doing great for Honda in Canada, apparently, specifically marketed as a first, learner's bike). I just think the companies don't want to invest in them in the US because they figure there is too much of a bigger-is-better attitude here (*ahem* Hayabusa)

Well There IS Another Option

If your looking for a 125 have a look here. Oh and for all of us in CA. it is street and emissions legal.

Here is a cut and paste of a reply to an email I sent and got back lighting fast.

It is street legal in california. They house a 125cc 4 speed manual 4-stroke motor. They go about 70mph out of the crate. They are a fullsize streetbike. They look very simular to a honda cbr 600. We are currently out of stock of this bike. If you leave me your name and # I can put you on our callback list as soon as we get some in I can give you a call. We look forward to serving you soon.

Thank you,

Can't Say

Travis, Welcome! I have never seen the bike in the link I provided above in person. I can't say what kind quality is built into the machine.

Typically smaller cc machines allow the rider to gain good riding skills without living in fear.

Lots of things to take into concideration. I don't know enough about you to make a recommendation.

Well... I've been riding off road for about 10 years, mostly a 125 but sometimes a 250, and 520KTM. I'm 18 now, started off on a PW80! I've been on the gixxer forums for a while trying to get info on them (I know.. I know...) but I don't fancy a 600 straight off after passing my test. The YZF range offering a 125 seems very inviting, as I want to ride on the roads, and get used to the riding position of a sportsbike.

Thanks for the welcome, I'm from the Isle of Man by the way so it would be rude not to ride a bike!

I'm not sure of the ratio but there a quite a few from Europe & Australia
I've seen others from all over the word but just one here & one there.

have you thought about an sv 650? that's been called the perfect beginners bike more than once & wouldn't be as high strung as a typical 600.
