After much internal debate between the (black) 10r and (blue) R1, I went with the 10r. I thought the R1 looked better in pics, but the front end seemed really wide to me when I sat on it. I was not a big fan of the 10r's front end, but it has grown on me. The deciding factors, however, were not the looks. I wanted something different than my G1K, and the 10r seemed to offer SLIGHTLY more of a difference than the R1...real 600 size (the fairing on the R1 seemed wider than my G1K), lighter handling, slipper clutch, same or more hp (with no dip), same or more torque (with no dip), the black stuff on the forks, 6 spoke wheels, magnesium engine covers, central ram air, cut-outs on the triple clamp, thumb-trigger lap timer. I really liked the R1's underseat exhaust, so that counterbalanced a lot of the items mentioned above. It was close, and I am sure I would have been happy with the R1. But my 10r is here, and I am like a pig in shit. About 50 miles on it so far. The 10r reminds me of my old cbr 600 in terms of size and front end feedback...and the bike feels MUCH smaller than my gixxer 1000. Now for the visual (with the fairings on...LOL from the other post...I guess I'll just have to ride it with the fairings on) :

hard to compare b/c i only sat on the R1. all i can say is that R1 FELT wide to me while i was sitting on it. as for the 10r, the bike handles like a dream...VERY LIGHT...and surprisingly stable in turns. i expected the 10r to feel a little flighty compared to my G1K, but it was the exact opposite. the 10r actually felt more stable than my G1K in the corners i went through today (corners that i have gone through 100s of times on my G1K...so I had a good sense of a comparison).

I think its pretty cool... this is an R1-forum.. and that half of the members actually own other bikes..

But you dont have to explain yourself about why you bought the ZX-10.. any motorcycle enthusiast knows the 10R and 04R1 are going to be battling it out all year long.

Choosing either wouldnt be a mistake.

Hey BD, aren't you even a little bit jealous that someone couldn't make up their mind which bike to buy and they actually have their 10R in their garage.... Any word when yours is coming in?

As for the fairings on/off thing... If your girl puts toilet paper in her bra to make her bust size big so everyone THINKS she is hot, does that make her hot or is it really what is UNDER the cloths that counts...:crash (By the way, my wife has small ones and I happen to like them that way...):boobies

Well you've got the one I would buy. I think the new one is a great package but the 10 sells me on what it has/does'nt have. I'm not a fan of the underseat exhaust on the R1 (it was added more for looks than performance IMO) and the slipper clutch on the 10 more than makes up for any minor issues the bike may have. Honestly I don't know how any club level racers would look at another bike when the slipper comes stock on this one!

I guess if it was my first or second bike i would be but after.......ahem a few years of riding, purchasing bikes one more is just that....one more no matter which brand it is.

me likes toilet paper, therefore it = HOT :makeout

BTW a local dealer received 2 10r's yesterday and i went to visit them today with the intention of scrutinizing for myself as well as anyone here thats interested.

The tank is art work. :thumbup
The bodywork/paint finish is superb. :thumbup
The fit of the bodywork is fine.:thumbup
The frame/chassis black finish is superb. :thumbup
The lightness is immediately felt when moving it about.
The instrument cluster leaves a bit to be desired. :(
Some of the chassis welds are fine and some are hidious depending on which ones you see or don't see. Some of them get your attention simply because of their width/size.
My initial impression when sitting on it was the suspension is firm for my 172lbs in street clothes.
I seem to fit the bike fairly well for my size and i didn't notice any problems with the seat with regard to width or firmness. (although with only 5min on it i shouldn't)

I've doned my flame suit..or not depending on who replies.
:riding

Congrats TFAB! If you're a fan of the blue, why no blue 10R??

BD, I weight about 5 lb more than you, and that is the only bad thing I see about the 10R, its suspension is way to stiff unless you are garvitationally gifted. If you weigh 210 plus, you are gonne be happy, but everyone else will likely find they have to open up those forks, even the track hounds like yourself.

I saw somewhere they were claiming for a 'fast' 150lb guy, but the only way I figure that is possible is if his girlfriend was on the back at the same time.

Since I'm sure you know how to set up a bike, I hope you get one soon so we can get an idea about the suspension since there hasn't been a single suspension realted real person account. Mostly the 12R guys who only know about hammering it in a straight line or think about wheelies.

Just like the zx6r the forks need some attention and my first thought is to try 5wt oil @ the same level as stock...(its somewhat of a band-aid fix but this is something that worked for the 6r so just maybe.)
