Made a quick turn throttle by using a 1" coupler for plastic pipe , I used grey pvc as it is less brittle. Cut to width of stock cable pull and snapped it place with some cement. Had to trim two small projections in housing but all is well now. throttle pull is a little about 60 degrees now.
Disclaimer: You do this at your own risk. Stunters should stay with stock.

mis-typed, it is about 60 degrees. I like it even more as I ride with it. Very controllable as yamaha fits a stiff return spring to the r1s (really stiff compared to a gsxr1000).

Why would you want to do this?
To get a greater response from the engine for a given amount wrist movement. By reducing wrist movement your hand position remains more consistant which helps in turning and braking.

Do you still have this installed? Still like it? I have a friend that is producing these for as many bikes as he can get ahold of. He just took some measurements of my throttle to produce some for the R1's.
I still have it in, I am really liking it now. I have seen simiular ones in the back of cyclenews for different models. Is that him?
Remember you must trim the housing if you are going to use piece as thick as the one I have shown above to prevent interference.

Nice LD...
You selling this mod. I get the quick shift and actually tried to aquire a YEC version, no luck though.
I have to admit I ride my bike 95% street. Is this something desirable for street primarily.
I feel pretty good about my throttle modulation and would appreciate less throttle rotation as you mentioned earlier...
thanks
xDx

i amde one of those last year, only about half as thick though. took it off after I got a bunch of mods. I needed the front wheel to stay down more....IMO it's easier to turn your wrist, and way less throw to 100% throttle, but finite throttle manipulation is sacraficed.

Could you be more specific? I don't get how you made this and I don't know what I'm looking at :dunno
the pic is the end of the throttle tube ( ignore my vista-cruise) and shows the gray plastic quick turn mod glued to black throttle tube.

Have you used the bike with this mod in a track on a trackday? I like the idea, but am a bit concerned about the rolling on the throttle once you're leaned over in the curves, not to create unnecessary spin of rear wheel.

More details...maybe a how to with parts....Por Favor!

here is the throttle housing showing the 2 small tabs that must be trimmed. I just used a sharp chisel and trimmed them down flush. The plastic shim is made from a 1" gray pvc pipe coupler (slip fit not the NPT threaded version)from any hardware store for $.50 . Cut it to fit the width of the cable guide on the stock throttle tube. Just take your throttle ass./tube apart and it will all be obivious. I will try and get a pic of the coupler up.

Quick question about cutting the pvc coupler, how did you cut the coupler nice and smooth? Pipe cutter, hacksaw then sand?

I've been looking for a quick turn throttle for my R1, I made one for my r6 and loved it tremendously. Anyone who has ever used a quick turn throttle and had time to get comfortable with the throttle will never go back to having to turn the throttle so much.... it takes too much wrist movement.

By the way, replacing ths stock r6 throttle tube with an r1 throttle tube is the secret to a quick turn on the R6 since the r1 has a larger dia. cable pull.

Another quick question, I rembered a posting a while ago saying to use large zip ties and screwing them to the throttle tube, how does your mod compare to that method? Do you have a larger diameter since you are using pvc pipe, or are they approx the same size? With that mod they say the total turn is about 50 degrees, it seems like yours would have to be less since it looks like a larger diam?
