wow I can't believe they let you just take it for a test ride, and now giving test rides on 1098s! that's crazy!

Very nice write-up too BTW.

i dunno maybe you are an old school twin rider, but if you are only used to riding inline 4s you are probably just rolling on the gas as the rpm progressively rise.

To immerse yourself in the experience of the thumping duke twin vibe mate, ya gotta WOT the things at low RPM and short shift them (before they go crazy and you lose your licence). Ridden that way those things are very very enjoyable to ride around the streets in a way that an R1 can never be.

Thats the problem with high power full bore bikes, you can't (or at least shouldn't) be enjoying them on the street. Ive not ridden the 848 yet but i reckon it would be pretty much spot on for a street bike.

when you say it lost power on the straightaways, every duke i have ever ridden has to be thrashed to redline (edit: oops not redline they dont have redlines, to the limiter) to get power out of them :D

anybody know what the 848 is running price wise OTD?
The price is just under $13K, I'd rather pony up the extra $3K for the big brother!

$13k for a bike that makes 118 hp is not my cup of tea. i have seen some other feedback from some guys and they say the 848 brakes need some upgrade to get to stock RC51 status WTF? a exhaust and brakes and another $3000 you all of at least $16k into a 125 hp poser bike.

i guess if money was no object then sure but then if it was why not the 1098 LOL

I like the look of both the 848 and the 1098 but here is my opinion of both.

848 is to the 1098 what the 748 was to 996. Almost all the looks as the big brother but down on the power. I love the looks of both, I may own a 1098 in the future as a second bike but it is very uncomfortable compared to the R1 and I still prefer the power delivery of an inline compared to a twin for most of my riding.

Comparing a 1098 to a R1 is very similar to comparing a Ferrari to a Z06 Corvette in many ways.

Just got the call today. They got their 1098 demo and asked if I wanted to take her out on her maiden voyage!! I pray the weather will adhere to my desires and let me go out tomorrow! Let you all know how it goes. This dealership is frickn' awesome!

Very few(and I've never seen any)places will alow the test ride of bikes. I wish I could find a place to let me, I'd pack a lunch and stay all day!
What I've found is that when a manufacturer has a product that deviates from the status quo (in this case the japanese inline 4) they will provided dealers with demo models.

I once was really interested in a Buell XB-12. After getting a test ride at the local Harley dealer I was thoroughly disappointed. You can't replace wide power band horse power with narrow power band torque. 90 horse power will never be more than 90 horse power.

Sweet , thats soo cool how they let you just ride it out like that!
They could have been 1 less 848, if that was anyone else..
Did they Take your license ?
I Dont get it, usually they at least make you leave your bike there for collateral!
