If you can put 18 up front instead of going 42 in the rear you get a couple bonuses
1) The larger the radius in the nose, the more efficiently the chain can move around the sprocket, robbing less power from the bike and also not putting so much heat into the chain.
2) Going down to a 42 in the front is going to make a bigger wheelbase change than the 18T front will, also, did you run into a problem with too much chain now or was there enough adjustment in the swingarm to take up the slack?
If you're going to be running a turbo and you want to make it more rideable and a higher top end, I'm not sure which is going to be a bigger trade-off. Running a high HP motor on a place like Daytona or Pocono's F-USA course would probably necessitate that also.
