I have read some postings for my answer but cannot 100% answer my questions. So here goes, I bought a NEW 09 R1
First, if i rev just a little about 4000 rpm i am hearing a heavy knock like a solenoid or loose connecting rod but its not always there mostly when it gets hot.
In standard mode ( other modes too but tested it mostly in standard ) and in first gear there is little acceleration, its responding as if the clutch is not out all the way, it stutters, second and third too.Yes, i adjusted the clutch just to make sure.

Just want to know if thats the way the new engine behaves. The dealer is looking at it presently, but they are saying thats the way it rides.Should i just ask for a new bike or allow then to try to fix?

awaiting replies.

Mine doesn't have any knock that you're describing. My clutch and shifter are shady also. I've never ridden a bike like this so I'm hoping it's normal or will go away with some more miles and an oil change.

im not having any of the problems you are mentioning. i have the crazy knock on a cold startup for a few seconds and the occasional grabby clutch when its cold. those seem regular but still no verdict if they are normal. im no mechanic but i doubt your problems are normal.

There is nothing wrong with the bike. You cannot just ask for a new bike, it has a warranty. No one ever describes engine noises the same.

How many miles are on it? Have you changed the oil?

I don't know if I would be too worried, maybe its a different noise that you haven't heard yet because it makes a different sound completly due to the crossplane crank???

Maybe other could give some more input on this...

its under warranty, ride it like to stole it. bet it outlasts you

You will find that steveWFL, along with a few other long term members here, know more about these bikes than your average Yamaha dealer. :fact

Welcome to the site btw.

In your quest for info try not to be an a$$. Steve posted info that pertains to your question, and we have many threads that cover your questions. Don't be afraid of doing a search to see. We have owners, race teams, mechanics, enthusiasts, engineers and all kinds of folks posting information every day.

Oh... and it's "insight."

The Noob is being an :butt, isn't he? :2bitchsla
yea, he is being a :butt.

Dude, you just got the bike, it's a new engine style. Why not ride it and see what happens. You've got a 1 year warranty and the extended warranty can be had if you really are worried.

BTW, you might also be experincing buyers remorse. It's kewl... you get past it.

I went thought the same thing... especially when I laid out a wad of cash that took me a while to save.

Sit back and enjoy and remember, you joined us...

at about 1,500 miles ever thing is good and broke in and alot of the funny ticks go away in the engine and the clutch doesnt chatter any more the only noise that wont go away is from the cct. I did the break in just how yamaha tells you to do it and after several sets of tires and 10,000 miles it still runs just as good as when I first bought it
