This has probably been asked on here, but I'm lazy right now to do a search :fact

My Wife and I had a huge argument tonight on whether or not I'm going to be able to teach my kids how to ride a motorcycle. She gave me the old "it's too dangerous" routine and that she promises that it will never happen. I tried to tell her that Horse Back Riding, Football, Baseball and other common sports are dangerous as well.

I understand her feelings towards the sport, and I guess I can say that I'm lucky that she respects me enough to not give ME crap when I head out to the track. But it's been my ultimate dream to be able to ride the track with my kids one day. I get excited just thinking about buying a little Yamaha TTR-50 to start teaching them.

So I'm asking my fellow Forum Members, is this something I should just give up on? Are there any formal children's programs that I could show my wife to help sway her to ease up?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I have a few mates with kids from 5-10 who are teaching them to ride. The 10 year old is pocket bike racing. I learnt when I was 8. I understand your Mrs being fearful, but the younger they learn, the more confident they will be with eveything they approach in life. And you know that when they get old enough to get a license, they have the proper spacial awareness and skills at the controls, to be safe. And hopefully you can retire when he wins his first World Championship at 19.:sneaky

The younger you start them, the more time they'll have learning about and respecting bikes. Best do it now before they hit puberty.
+ 3 on what they said I wish I had started sooner! And it's just like everything else in life the more experienced you are the better and safer you will be at it. (I got my neck broke in High school wrestling with all the gear and coach's present)

You could try to convince her that the younger they start, the safer they'll be when they get older and start riding on the street.

Show her some pics from on there. Look how tiny those bikes are! Those kids are wearing full leather, the whole kit.
If they were to slide off, I don't think they'd get hurt at all.
Not nearly as hurt as a skateboarding/football/soccer/pfffft wtf ever injury.

Being the head of the household has it's advantages. Of course, my wife doesn't have as nice a posterior as yours.

MY wife knew going in that my boys or girls would ride. She only questioned when, and the eldest got a pocket bike last year. He was 8 at the time. He broke his foot a few weeks ago, so he's not been on it yet this year.

If the kids themselfs are eager for it then you should get em to the track. Full gear and everything, it wont be cheap !

Btw, is your avatar foto your wife?

^^

You won't be able to stop them from wanting to learn if they see you doing it.

I blame my addiction to motorcycling 100% on my Father....Who sat me on his 1971 Sl 350 when I was barely old enough to remember it. :thumbup

Talk her into letting them ride small dirt bikes with you safely, she'll come around in time. More importantly take her concerns seriously and get her to pose more and then post up the pics!!!!!:sneaky
