Hi guys, would appreciate some advice here. Moments ago, I was riding my 2009 R1 and I entered a small road, after I lowered to first gear, the bike died off and couldn't start. Tried pressing the starter button but there's no response.

Pushed the bike to the road side and waited for it to cool till 70degrees celcius. Tried the starter again still no response. There is no error code or whatsoever, and when the key is switched to on, all the lights and displays are there. Opened my rider seat and checked all my fuse but none of it is broken. Really dont know what happened here any ideas..?

PS : Just changed to a new battery 3 weeks ago.

are you unable to bump start it? what battery did you put in there? sure it was fully charged? ever laid the bike down or dropped it? does it try to turn over at all? any noise at all when you hit the starter button

Thanks for the prompt reply, according to the mechanic, its the original battery, I took a look at it but didnt remember the name. I doubt its the battery's problem because its been fine for 3 weeks after i changed it. And no bike wasnt dropped or laid down before.

By the way, forgot to mention, usually when the key is turned on, there's a "eeeeeeek" sound from the engine, after the bike stalled, the "eeeeeek" sound is gone. Dont know whether it means anything.

the "eeeeek" sound you're describing is most likely the fuel pump cycling. so when you push the start button nothing happens? lights dont flicker? engine doesnt try to turn over? an annoying clicking noise coming from the tail? you said it was a new battery...but now you say its the original battery? Did you just buy the bike? the stock batteries in the 09 are complete shit. if you bought the bike used and its still running the original battery then I would get a new one. I had to replace mine after 1000 miles. if you bought the bike new and the stock battery is in it...its probably been sitting on the sales floor for a long time and the battery is drained. put the battery on the charger. Autozone can charge it for you always and tell you if its useless or will hold a charge

Sorry I mislead you. The mechanic said it was the appropriate battery for the bike. Just replaced the battery 3 weeks ago. Its not running on the original battery that was provided by Yamaha.

And yes, when i push the start button, there's no response at all. No flicker, didnt notice any sound from the tail. Its almost like pushing the start button when the ignition is at "off". By the way I have a voltmeter installed, i remember seeing 12.3 or 12.4V when I turn the key to on, which is what I usually see when I start my bike daily. Thats why I dont think problem lies with battery. Could it be due to loose wiring? really dont know. Anyway I've sent my bike back to the mechanic to re check my entire wiring. This electrical issue is a pain !

hmm thats odd. were you at a good lean angle when it cut off? maybe a stuck tip over sensor. and just cause i've seen people do it before... if you have the kickstand down...you are putting it in neutral to start it right?

hmm, I actually switched to gear 1 to "squeeze" in between cars at a traffic light when it cut off. And yes gear was in neutral when I tried the start button. Really strange. Thanks for your help bro. Will update the findings probably tmr or day after after mechanics diagnose the problem.
