I removed my ignition on my 09 and attempted to install a toggle switch since its track only. The power turns on and but the bike wont actually start. Error code 19 displays in the dash, and I have checked everything for loose wires, the side stand switch and checked all the fuses and connections to the ecu, and still no luck. My friend did the same mod and his works fine, and he's looked at mine and cant figure it out either. I even tried touching the wires back together with the original wires on the ignition but that didn't work either.

Another thing too, the bike is neutral when I tried to start it, but I put it in gear and the neutral light is still on? Please don't tell me I fried my ecu...

That doesnt sound good man! Im not sure what the 19 means but im sure someone can tell u eventually. One thing u can try in the mean time is unhook the battery letting the ecu reset sorta speak by draining all the power from it. Being that u put it back the way it was and put in gear and still shows neutral deff sounds like an electrical issue. Have u tried a different switch?

coded 19 is the side stand on my o7 dont know if it deffers from the 09...mine throws the code 19 here and there but it will start on the second attempt if it does throw it...ive got my prob down to the ecu i believe...it sucks..good luck

I get an occasional code 19 on my 2004 R1. As near as I can guess, it is some kind of loose wire or connection within the ignition lock itself.

I have run the diagnostics and my side-stand switch works flawlessly.

I tend to get the code 19 error after wet nights (my bike lives outside) and my ignition has been half-broken ever since I bought the bike. (You have to jiggle it to get the key to turn and the key can be removed even after the ingition is switched to "on")

I would check and re-check the ignition.

i think the ign. switch has a resistor for the ecu power. i think there's more needed than just a toggle switch. but i could be wrong.

depending on which model here in Australia all R1's from 04 are fitted with immobilizers which work with a chip in the key and an aerial in the ignition so if you remove the ignition than she wont go but that's only here don't know where you are
the neutral light has nothing to do with the ecu there is a switch which is activated from the selector drum

Doesn't seem anyone answered you but I know exactly what you have done. You have activated the immobilizer, total ECU lock down! You need to send your ECU off to be flashed (you will lose immobilizer) or buy a new one with wiring harness and keys (big money$$ÂŁÂŁ)

Hi, i had the same code on my 2010 R1, after check all that can be cheked, i found out that the error code 19 was a blue cable going from the ignition to the ECU, and figured out that this blue wire, it broke up because of the stearing wheel.
Sorry my bad english, i'm from venezuela and had 5 days looking for a solution for my problem.

I know some of Yamaha and racing bikes if you have any doubt you can call me to +584140872986 or email me to turcoamer@hotmail.com i'll be glad to help you guys

So it’s the kickstand switch… we bypassed it and we still have that issue so yes, a lose ground or loose wire… but it’s the kickstand switch…it won’t allow you to start the bike if its down or isn't bypassed properly ! (04 R1 & 07-08 R1)
