Wasn't intending to be rude, but you'd be hard pressed to find a performance bike with LEDs. Different strokes, different folks.

What does one have to do with the other? I must be a broke son of a bitch with a 98 R1...

haha :scoots:

I vote Suspension Tuning (Catalyst Suspension- San Carlos)

Actually, there is almost no equal modification in impact. Lighter wheels can change every aspect of how the machine handles, for the better. They are pricey, and take some custom tuning to the suspension. But they also have some of the most performance enhancing changes that can be done to a motorcycle.
Hey Dan I have never rode a bike with lighter rims. What would be some of the biggest difference I would feel if I had some lighter rims? Thanks ahead Dan.

The ease in changing direction is the biggest change I notice.
That's one of the biggest changes. But overall, the reduction in centripetal force, and how that changes every aspect of accelerating, decelerating and changing the direction of the machine. Plus, it's probably the largest change that you can make to the unsprung weight of the machine.

Plus, for the horsepower freaks, you are reducing parasitic losses in all areas of the dynamics. So you should see more horsepower to the wheel, as well.

But, from the seat the most notable change is faster handling due to the reduction of the gyroscopic forces.

Damn I hate this forum. I think I just added another mod to my list.

Thanks DanQ SPanega SS

Just caught up with all the responses. Definitely going to get the suspension tuning and probably the brake lines as well. The carbon fibre wheels look really really tempting - they look fantastic and from the thread seems like it improves the bike handling. I think I will do some track days on the stock wheels and then decide based on how it goes.

Thanks everyone for the responses so for, really appreciate you guys sharing the info.

the stock rubber brake lines expand when you use them, the stainless steel ones do not expand. making for better braking power. i have red core moto ss brake lines, they look awesome and are great quality, for a great price.
The Core Moto brake lines look great - did you get 2 brake lines in the 2F configuration for your R1? Planning to buy these.

Also did you order stock lengths or need extra lengths?

after re-reading the thread, i apologize. I forgot the OP said he was planning on going to the track when it opens, and i realize he probably has a fair bit of money since he has a 2013 r1.

but i still think you shouldnt be rude to someone because of what mods they have done to their bike. Not everyone has the same goals/ interests :riding
Street or track if some asks for performance mods wheels will get brought up. If you are street only than every mod is a "waste" considering bone stock you can break every traffic law in terms of speed, takeoff, etc in all 50 states. Without shifting out of 1st gear.

:fact

As mentioned these are my favorite mods:
Suspension
Brake lines
QuickShifter

And for that generation R1 I hear you definitely want an ecu flash.

....want some lightweight wheels. I'll get some eventually.

Oh. And tie downs. :fact
Some track bodywork wouldn't hurt either... that way if you tip over you won't ruin your pretty bodywork.

Why would it be a waste to put BST's and CMC's on a street bike? Is it considered a waste to make a 1000 turn/feel like a 600 if you are only hitting canyon/mountain roads or city streets.....what does the ability to break traffic laws have to do with making a bike handle better or stop faster or absorb road imperfections?

Tired of the same bs responses in regards to street vs. track. The track whores need to stfu and understand that modding a bike can and will make it better/more enjoyable whether you ride the street, the track, the mountains or the lot....

1) Carbon wheels don't make an R1 handle or feel like a 600...I know, I have them.
2) I quoted "waste" to the person saying this is for street only. Wheels are no more or no less a "waste" since you can't legally come anywhere near the limit.
3) Your mountain roads, canyons, etc.....you are still breaking the law in 1st gear

I'm all for modding the shit out of a bike, street, track, both. Just if you say a mod is a waste on the street (wheels in this case), then they all are...which was my point :fact

I would consider something to be a waste if you can't afford it. A Ferrari to me might be a waste of money, because I can't afford it. If I had 100 million dollars, then it wouldn't be a waste.
That's how I like to look at it. Sure you can put 20 grand in upgrades into your bike, but unless you are very wealthy, or use the bike in competitions, in my opinion, it would be a "waste". Since a stock bike with a great rider is going to out perform an upgraded bike with a shitty rider.

Considering he put waste in quotations and considering his bike is modded to the point of ridiculousness...

I'd say he meant technically any mod is a waste. To take a bike that very few of us can ride to it's potential, stock, on the road or on the track and add anything to it (other than necessary suspension changes) is technically a wasteful mod.

The cost/benefit of every performance mod is null considering the fact that if we put ourselves on a race bike with everything, Josh Hayes can still run a circles around any of us with a bone stock bike.

So... If lightweight wheels are a waste, everything else is too. End of story.

Now OP asked opinions on mods and the suggested mods are the ones we like. They all change the bike. The only mod not worth doing is the one that is not legal for the class you may want to run in the future or the one you can't really afford.
