'03 help!!

Ok, so all summer, my 03 R1 had this wierd glitch. Every so often when yo turned the key to start it, a 50 code would come up on the panel, and it would'nt start. Also, you could'nt hear the fuel pump prime. So after a few tries,(key on and off several times) it would engage and start.

Now it wont engage at all. So I take it to the dealer, he calls me back and says it a fried EC, and a new one is $524!!!!!

Am I getting hosed!!!?????

Try to find one for sale here, or try ebay. Lots cheaper than $524!!!

very rare for an ECU to just fry.
Typically, something else causes it.
Unless the connectors have been removed and only partially installed, and water or debris got into the connectors, i highly doubt thats what happened.
I'd be looking for a better explanation, and asking for a guarantee that the new part will fix the problem.
It would be a real shame if the ECU was replaced, and then that unit fried, all so they could figure out that something else was wrong..........
