Looking for some recommendations on brake rotors and also whats still available for my year since it seems aftermarket parts are getting harder to find.

Im really happy with the stopping power with the stockers with the Ss lines and Vesrah Rjl pads but if i can find something that lighter and better that would be great. Better feedback would be a plus too.

So far i found some galfer superbike and Braking Wk thats caught my interest. Braketech looks amazing too but seems very pricey and did not see model specific for my year.

After some googling i just came across some Braketech Axis Cobra for a reasonable price. Goes good with my raven scheme with the red buttons as well.

I've always wanted to ask about iron rotors. What exactly are the benefits of them and what's are stock rotors made from I wonder?? Are iron rotors the best available?? What I like about the sbu rear I posted is it's affordable and looks like it would get rid of the heat fast.

Also what's a good pad to run that's more aggressive than stock. I actually love my stockers and use only my middle finger so love a really aggressive bite. As for the rear I just plan to get the sbu rotor and probably stick with the stock rear pads as they seem fine as well. When using only one finger for braking it's always good to have extra bite. I'll tell ya I've considered trying the Yamaha 6pot calipers on the stock 4 pot larger diameter rotors it seems like it would be a very aggressive setup. But I've also heard quiet a few say the 4 pot units work better than the 6 pot units. I'm referring to stock like 06 vs 07 4&6 pot setups. Remember reading a post where a guy with the 07/08 r1 said his 4pot r6 units were worlds better. Plus now Yamaha has went back to the 4 pots so who knows maybe they are better. With yamahas quality and attention to detail why the heck ain't they bringing us stock brembo and this new supposedly much better showa suspension??? Heck they could even go 1 up and give us ohlins being they own ohlins don't they?? I just don't see why there not giving what all the other manufacturers are. I see these cheaper laws and suzukis with brembo and better forks/ shocks. What's the 15/17 have on it suspension wise? Kayaba??

From a performance viewpoint, there's really no point changing rotors unless you go to a different material.

Finding the right pad for your riding style will make far more difference.

My 99 at 60,000 miles still has the original rotors. But the brakes are great since changing to Brembo SC pads.

I would change to a radial m/c though if I could find one to fit. [emoji6]

My reason for the sbu lightweight rear rotor is the weight savings and to help shed heat. I learned and raced dirt and do use some rear when riding really hard. Any other time I don't use them at all.

How do you think iron will hold out in humid ass florida?

Braketech lists a 320 x 5 and 6mm. Stock is 5mm correct? If i upgrade to a brembo m4 caliper can i stick with the 5mm? And which pads would i be able to use with said caliper?

The braking force is proportional to the contact surface area between the pads and rotor. Cut away half of the rotor and you will halve this.

You don't want a completely solid rotor either, which is the reason for all of the slots and holes they have. But those SBU rotors really don't have much metal at all.

It just really depends how you use it. I don't use the rear much, and in fact have fitted organic pads to make it harder to lockup. But then others use it on corner exit to control the power and reduce wheelies. I'm not sure that's how I want to ride, but might try it one day.

Braketech iron rotors are on the way. Now looking for pad recommendations. Will use stock calipers for now. Maybe I'll upgrade to brembos at the end of the year.
