05' R1 - 180hp my ass

I've had my 05' R1 for about 3 months now, putting nearly 6k miles on it so far. One thing that's bothered me since day one on my bike, I couldn't help but think "this doesn't feel like 180hp worth of power". I notice this mostly when trying to do 2nd gear sit downs, I have to be going about 80-85 to get the thing off the ground. My friends all kept saying "It's your technique, let me ride it and I'll pop that bitch up".
Well, I had the chance to do just that, I swapped with a buddy of mine who rides an 05' GSXR-1000. Lets just say, he wasn't doing any 2nd gear sit downs that night. He did a couple nice stand ups, but he had to bounce it at about 70mph.
The GSXR has so much more torque than the R1, it just felt so much faster. A sit down will come up easy at 60-65mph on that bike. The power of the bike actually intimidated me through 1st and second gear. Getting on the highway, I'll usually put my R1 full throttle to the red through 1st, 2nd and 3rd. Not on the GSXR, I didn't even want to bring it past 10k (not being used to the bike, and it not being mine, I had to be careful).

Anyways,
180hp my ass! I'm going to re-gear +1/-1 and see if that helps.

It's producing 180 at the CRANK....not the wheel. It's geared for the track.

don't forget - the 180HP mark is "at speed" with ram air.

more like 154 without ram air assist.

LOL
when buying a bike i always do a lot of research, till am satisfied that what am buying is the best thing for me and not my friends or piers, i could give a rats ass what people think. i buy my shiat for me not the rest of the world. so buy what you research and not what people tell you. you'll be a much happier rider.
in other words quit bitchin', we all know the numbers and we chose the 1 and so did you so go out and enjoy the biatch..

sorry people.....the 180 at the crank is for thoes newbs(not you sabian) to sell the bike.

180 hp at the crank is with the ram airbox pressurized at speed of 150+....wich is bascially SUPERCHARGING the bike...

if you dont like how the bike acclerates then put a "cheap" fron counter sproket (down one tooth) and the results should be favorable....If this does not satisfy thy this and you WON'T BE DISAPPOINTED FO SHO!!!!!!!!!!!!!:bow

203 to the ground beitch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!180 hahahahaha

I agree...hell i won a 05 GSXR 1000 and i am still keeping my R1...I love the damn thing!! Im getting a 600RR to replace the 05 GSXR 1000 ....need a track bike.....im sorry, but it will take a lot more than a few HP here and torque there to pry me off the "ONE" I still stay right with and pass many 05 GSXR 1Ks so i dont think the R1 is lacking anything useable at least. Just my 2 cents

What you are experiencing has nothing to do with the power. It is because of the way the R1 is geared and the fact that is doesn't make its true power in the lower rpm range. Wheelies in second are also very possible if done right.

Funny.....I could do 3rd gear stand ups simply bouncing them.

And I'm a fatass........

Hate to tell you bro.......it is your technique.

It's true that changing the gears will make the R1 easier to wheelie, although with stock gearing it will wheelie in 1st, 2nd and 3rd with no problem.

Right now my setup is -1/+2 and it's a wheelie monster.

You have to get over the tank when you wack the throttle or the front tire will snap right up.

The 05 R1 is an amazing machine, very balanced and with Pilot powers the bike corners like it's on a rail.

You just can't ride it with out having to jump on the highway at 170MPH, the blood really starts pumping, cutting through the wind like a fooking razor, nobody is able to keep up.

OMG I need to log off and take a ride RIGHT NOW!

Sorry, I get a little carried away when it comes to the R1.

PS: I'll take the look and feel of the R1 over the 10th of a second faster speed of the gix anyday.

Interesting. Did I post to a forum full of little kids? I didn't know anyone over 15 used the word "noob". I thought this was an R1 forum. Then again, it's the internet I guess you have to bash anyone and everyone at any chance you get.
