ok i had my 07 R1 flashed its an eu spec and to be honest i did not really notice any significant difference and best thing from it is the fan temp change and that my custom map was loaded into the ecu.

gonna sell the 07 R1 and stick with my 00 R1.

i was expecting it to feel like the 00 R1 but it dont only way i can get the 07 R1 to feel evil is to go -1 on front sprocket
So if you think the 07 R1 is crap compared to your 00 then its really not worth much to you so how about I take it off your hands and do you a favour ;)

yes you are right i am trying to ride the 07 R1 like the 00 R1 and the power bands are extremely different!

The 07 R1 is great above 7k rpm and is a beast there but thats what i expect from a 600cc bike not a 1000cc bike
the 07 R1 handles better and is more stable than the 00 R1

i understand that the power has been shifted that way as it makes it easier on the track however i wanted the grunt that the 00 R1 provides from tickover

dont get me wrong the 07 R1 is still a very fast bike but i was expecting the flash tune to make it feel as grunty as the 00 R1 from tick over which was not the case.

on the 07 R1 i have akrapovic titanium cans, custom map loaded into the ecu via flash tune, decatted link pipe and standard and k&n air filter as i swapped the two out to see any diffference there with them.

if i down geared the 07 R1 then it would feel jus like the 00 R1 but im so disaapointed with the flash hype that ive decided to get rid of the 07 R1 even tho its a better engineered bike!

in my opinion the 07 R1 is much better track bike but the 00 R1 is much better road bike.

ive owned at some point every R1 from 98 to 08 but i am curious how the big bang feels with a flash tune.

im not saying the flash tune is a waste of time and money because it certainly IS NOT!

the flash tune is probably the best mod you make to an R1 before you do anything else to the bike.
being able to adjust the fast idle, idle speed, fueling, fan temperatures, speed correction, is worth its weight in gold.

maybe if i was a track person i would appreciate the flash tune but im not im a road rider who loves the thrill and excitement and dangers of the real road.

i have been riding both bikes back to back and the differences between the two are blatent.

Unfortunately you're not going to get that low down grunt from the newer r1's. The old ones had tons of power down low and like you said the newer bikes are made for the track and higher revs. But the 07 after the flash when you get in that power band it's an incredible rush. Every bike is different but that's part of the fun.

The only real way to get the 07-08 R1's to shift its power band is to degree the cams. It will give you more power earlier in the RPM's but you will also lose off top sooner then normal.

I try to stay away from these type of threads because I got caught up in the flash hype myself. I had flashtune for a while but even with all the adjustable functions, I just couldn't get the performance (like the older R1s) sub 8000rpm.

Anyway, I got the rid of the flashtune and got the YEC reprogrammed ecu. Now the bike (street only) is a real ripper. Power from low down is very much like the older R1s with the supreme power of the 07/08 up top.

I don't want to start a pissing contest on which flash is best. Flashtune sure offers a lot of flexability and being able to place a PCV map into it is good, but the stock ecu reprogrammed to YEC spec beats it hands down. Ok I need to run a fuel module piggyback but once the YEC is installed, there is no need to mess with ignition, tps or anything, it's just ready to go.

The instant results that I got from the YEC straight off would have taken months and months of dedicated work on the flashtune. Even after all this time and work on the flashtune,I doubt it could compare with YEC.

Like I say about staying away from these threads...the reason that I've shared info here is that perhaps if flashtune aint ticking the boxes for you, maybe it's time to try a different flash.

FYI The folks that do this YEC reprogramming are able to overwrite the flashtune program. If your interested in this, you should drop R1liam a PM.

I would say every map does ride a little different. My best map For the 08 I got was from Toysareforboys ( Jamie) . It pulls extremely well.

Hi, I have an 07 R1 and the flash tune interface and I've been chasing down a lumpy idle issue for ages now I've still come up with nothing. The only mods I have are race baffles and a Y-pipe with smog plates and the exup removed. The issue goes away if I cover one of the pipes, any suggestions? It seems like if I could find a way to raise the idle the issue will go away because it only happens after the bike starts warming up and the idle starts settling.

hey fellas.
Im just awaiting the arrival of my kit, so I can flash my ecu.

is anyone still tinkering with the 07-08? Ive just read through the first 9 pages but I see its been a while.

be good to now who out there is still messing around on the 07-08
