Found this over at the 1098 forum. They're celebrating their first kill..and have dead R1 roasting over an open flame.

Holey crap look at that 5k dip for the Duc. Looks like the bike will shut off at 5k.lol

100 cc more and about extra 5 K you would think for that money it would be more than 0.1 apart. F that R1 is still better

This is quiet interesting. But i have to point out that the model of the Duc on the track is a 1098R model and the one that they posted in the comparo is a 1098S model. the difference is the R model has all the Goodies Ohlins front and rear and by the looks of it also has a full (at least slip-on) Termii exhaust. the R1 on the other hand is just plain Jane.

Actually I believe the S has all the goodies on it...the one that doesn't is just called the 1098

gotta agree. 100 more CC, more money.. and not .1 difference... more like .005 of second, where im sure TQ of duc is in favor. both great bikes..but jeez.. .005 of second.. thats like 2 inches on track.

They could have at least compared the 06LE to at least have similar suspension and clutches...

the duck had to almost double its price to barely beat the R1. I think they should take out that extra 100 cc and then run the test again. Bet you won't see an article anymore.

How much was the R1 LE? 18k or 16k? Well whatever it is, its almost 50% more than a regular R1, and did it spank the R1? Nope. How much is a MV-Agusta, 23k ish? Does it spank the R1? Nope. How much is the new MV-Agusta CC? 120k'ish, does it spank the R1? Nope. You can use your logic of "the 1098 is twice as much but barely beat the R1" all you want but, if you use other bikes with that same logic its still retarded.

The new Corvette Z06 owns the F360 period, for half the price, hell maybe even 1/3 of the price. I really doubt the F360 owners are rushing to the stealership to buy a new corvette. Not the exact same comparison, but you get my point. Its just personal choice, who the hell cares what they ride. Instead of sticking together and making fun of Harleys (lol j/k) we come here and have a big dick measuring contest.

Looking at the specs and lap times it looks really tight, and not being able to translate what they are saying doesn't really allow us to read into the riders thoughts. We'll see , I usually only read Roadracing World, and I'm out of town so I won't get to read this months issue so it's off to Barne's and Noble I go.

The R1 rules... 1098 has to get valve jobs every 7600 mile to the r1's 26,000 mile... That's all I have to say.

Actually the forks in that pic are 10K+ alone. But I understand what you're saying. I was going to get a 1098 (might still get the '08) but this year I decided to go with a K7. The OTD price difference between the K7 and 1098S(what I was getting) is $9,000. So my K7 will receive BST wheels, ohlins fork cartridges or r/t forks, ohlins shock, and yoshi trc ti full system. I'll probably also have to get an pcIII and spend more $$ on a dyno tune. But I think a K7 with that setup will definitely keep my mind of the 1098...I'd imagine an R1 with that setup would do the same! :rock

It is a shithole that is now closed and not used for anything -- except cheap journo rental. I dont know if they use it for karts or supermotard. It is small and very technical. Perhaps closer to tight backroad and in that sense it is fair "real world" perspective. The times are very, very good. The magazine often uses current top or top former racers -- not Catterson types :p

On a GP track or something better, I think it is still would be close. The Duc has better suspension and neutral chassis, famous for it's stability and confidence. Perhaps on truly fast tracks, maybe the R1 would be a bit ahead.

But, yeah, put 10k of improvements on the R1 and with a top rider (both bikes) the R1 would clearly be faster. But lets face it, unless the rider is at or close to pro level, does it matter?

R1 Vs Duc

I would have to agree for the price of the Duc and the price of the R1 you cant loose with the R1, you would think not only with the higher price and the extra 100cc that it would shit on the R1 but nooooo, Duc"s are over rated people only like them coz there Italian they are nice but Yam is soo much better.
The 1098 is nice but you cant go wrong with R1, also i would like to compare the maintainance costs say over 30,000 K"s again i think we have it yet again, also add say PC, exhaust and a filter and the comparison would be completely different.

I still have to find a Duc worth the money, i think they are more like Nike shoes you pay for the name not the quality.

So, what you are trying to say is that Ducati still hasn't caught up. I hear you. :lol
