1100 plus miles on a candy-red 07 R1

and on a further note about peoples doubts on the 07 r1....a buddy has an 06 honda 1000rr, another buddy has an 06 gsx1300r...we went out tonight around town just messin around and ill say this much....the honda and the yamaha are about equal, he has an aftermarket exhaust on his and he was able to very very slowly creep a little past me...the hayabusa unfortunately was only slightly side by side...some reason i dont think they are as fast as people think they are.....300more cc to push 100+ more lbs....

after i hit 1100 miles on the 07 r1 i let her rip....after i let off the throttle i glanced down and the speedo said 182mph, now who knows how accurate that is...either way..we were movin....5th and 6th gear i could feel the front wheel skim the hwy surface as i pulled through 10,000-13,500 rpm or so...it also seems the new r1 has 2 power bands, one around 5000 rpm and another above 10,000 rpm

the throttle seems a bit touchy in 1st gear while around town and through the neighborhood/parking lots...the bike has a great deal of engine braking, as soon as you let off the throttle the bike wants to come to a stop...its kind of annoying at slow speeds but its VERY nice when movin pretty fast, esp on the highway around 60-70mph..i hardly use the brakes when on the highway through light traffic

shifting is very smooth through all the gears, although every now and then ill have the issue of kicking it from 1st to nuetral instead of 2nd gear...once that happens i have to wait until the rpm's drop a bit then kick it into 2nd....only happend maybe 10 times in the 1100 plus miles i have racked up now

as for fuel milage, the bike is still running pretty RICH and you can smell the fuel from the exhaust, once i get a tune-up with a powercommander im sure the gas milage will be better....

i cant say for sure about hwy/city milage because i do a mix of both...but i can say that i average 32 miles per gallon and when the fuel light comes on you usually have a good 25-30 miles to go based on my calculations....thats the safe number of miles id consider going without more fuel....when the fuel light comes on and i fill up shortly after, i usually end up having to put in 3.95 gallons of 93 octane

i manage to get just over 120 miles per "tank" of gas

the slipper clutch im new to, but shifting from 150mph down to 50 mph is very smooth, there arent any noises other than the typical whine you get from the engine braking...

ive had a small issue with the "fly by wire" i assume, its not a terrible problem, its only happened 3 times since ive had the bike and im sure its some small bug that will eventually get worked out, i went to crack open the throttle while getting onto the hwy and the bike did nothing for a second then started and stopped for a split second then just took off like it had gasoline rubbed on its raw ass.....

the bike is insane, easy to handle around corners, tires grip the road without any problems whatsoever, when i can muster up the balls, ill wheelie the bike and report on how easy/hard it was to bring up with the slipper clutch

im not scared just worried ill drop the bike doing something stupid....but im sure that will fade in time right :rock lol......any questions? my bike is broke in and ive topped her out....no more baby time for this bike thats for sure.....im 100% satisfied that i bought the 2007 yamaha r1.....i wouldnt trade it in for any other bike at this moment....

did i mention it turns alot of heads? every where i go people ask what bike it is, what year, if they can take a picture of it with their kids...girls in deep ellum want to sit on it yada yada...what more could you ask for in a badass sportbike?

Sounds good, hopefully we wont read about the first totalled 07 R1 from you lol.

The only part that is shady to me is the FBW problems people have been having, sounds like it could have ended badly for you....

Good luck and ride safe man

what i dont get is you say bike is lean, but you smell fuel in exhaust? this contradicts itself. if its rich you will get fuel smell. also lower your shifter by adjusting the shift rod just a tad.. it will help with you shifting into 2nd. or wear thicker boots/shoes.

sorry about the "lean" typo..i updated the post....

i live about 45 min from d & d exhaust's business, i sent an email and gave em a call to work on getting a full exhaust for the 07 r1

I'm sure they are giong to get right on it for ya :)

....the honda and the yamaha are about equal, he has an aftermarket exhaust on his and he was able to very very slowly creep a little past me

Dude, i have an 03 Suzuki with just a Yosh Slip-On, i have friends with 05 and 06 CBR 1000 with full exhaust, mapping etc.., and there's no way those honda can stay with me, they deeply hate my bike because of that lmao!!
So if you can't pull them with your 07.......well i don't know, how do you weight?? How do you shift???? Something's wrong...

the 2006 1000rr did see some power gains and lost 15 lbs wet

Psh...oil changes are for hondas. My Yamaha doesnt need all that fancy lubrication. I just do power wheelies until my oil is low and fill her back up!

and whatever you do, DO NOT use a D&D. They are for noise only, not performance...

race ur boy with the CBR again. Do a 2nd gear roll. I think he was in a lower gear then you. That is a BIG problem.....

we have done several 2nd gear roll ons and at worst we just stay equal with noone pulling ahead slowly...the r1 is quicker in the quarter mile from a dead stop however..but once i said, if i can get an aftermarket exhaust and get the powercommander...im sure the 07 r1 will be quicker all around...

I had the same issue with my 07 R1. If I'm at a steady throttle and I crack it open it sometimes bogs until I let up and roll it on. It doesn't happen all the time though.:dundun:

i did the first oil change myself at 598 miles, ive broke this one nice and easy for the first 600 miles (under 7000 rpm) then after 600 miles i stayed under 9000 rpm...after 1000 miles it was on like donkey kong

oil change on this bike is a piece of cake undo 3 screws and 3 quick release screws and the bottom fairing comes off...easy access to the filter and drain plug

:secret:

gearing is the same as the 04-06
