15-16 R1 Rear Cowl Install?

I'm guessing someone has already addressed this, but I was unable to find it in a search. I just got my 2016 R1, and am attempting to install the Solo Seat Cowl. The bracket appears to need to be bent more to have the bolts line up at the front without hitting the plastic lip from behind the Main seat. Any advice or trick to do otherwise? Thanks for the help.

I have the instructions from Yamaha. Looks as though it should be a straight shot to put the two bolts in, but the bracket appears to not be bent far enough to prevent the plastic section from being in the way. Anyone else have this issue?

I didn't have an issue with the bracket on mine. Just bolt and install.

It's still a mayor pain in the ass to bolt the cowl though. There is a specific angle else it'll take forever.

I will complain about it forever... Why not keep the damn key locking mechanism as previous years.

I cut the ears off the plastic bracket on both sides, Way easier to get the screws in and lined up properly

To make it a bit easier I got some button head bolts to replace the hex head bolts that were supplied with the cowl. It's nice not having to jam a 10mm socket into the access cut-outs in the pad.

This took a long time to install in a dark garage. I removed one of the single bolts that holds the pad down, even without the bolt the thing shouldn't fly off. I don't think I want to ever install the cowl again.

I remember this... I tried for hours to mount the seat cowl. Gave up and decided to come back to it the next day finally got it mounted, it's a bitch to get lined up properly.

I wanted to reopen this thread. I am thinking about putting this on my 2016 Matte Grey. Bike bandit has it for $229.00 free shipping. But I have my PCV Autotuner cable tucked under the passenger seat and I tune my bike every few days. Is it that much a pain in the ass to remove and reinstall considering now I just twist the key and go? Thanks for the input.

Installs in minutes ??

The YZF-R1® Rear Seat Cowls features:

* Transforms your bike into a single-seater for a sportier look – easily replaces the passenger seat
* Stylish cushion and the R-1 logo
* Comes in coordinating model colors
* High-quality finish that complements the YZF-R1 styling and flows with the contour lines of the rear tail section
* Installs in minutes

It look nice, but bad design. Also, it said installs in minutes is just a joke. Now I've to decide either to cut the plastic or get other bolts to replace it.
