It's indeed an interesting observation - in previous generation R1's, the journalists always slagged the OEM rubber off as being not sticky enough. Yamaha did something about it and suddenly a number of owners are concerned about tyre life...Same as the thread about coolant temperature. People asked for a lighter and smaller bike. Yamaha did something about it. Suddenly owners are concerned about coolant temperature...

The current generation R1 is obviously track ready straight out of the crate. That's what people wanted. I hope the next generation R1 is not back to Pilot Powers and three kilograms more of coolant system...

I had to replace my rear tire after just over 2000km during a two day hwy road trip. Even with 41psi cold the rear just disappeared as I watched. This rs10 is way more track tire than street tire. When I got it off it was down to a thin hard rubber band in the center that was only a few mm thick. I could prob poke a screw driver through it with no effort.

I had thought of buying these again but they are just too soft and short lived for me as a street bike rider that only takes it track riding a couple times a year. My dedicated track bike has supercorsa pirellis that last longer.

I'll be putting on a set of v2 supercorsa pirellis when I get the time.

The european base model R1's are delivered with Pirelli Diablo Supercorsa SP's. They seem to outperform the M model Bridgestone's in performance as well as durability.

Im more interested in what psi is going to be the happy medium for this tire. I've replaced the tires once already and have done so with the rs10.

I personally for a street tire love the Pirelli Diablo Rosso II and the Pirelli Angel GT (I highly recommend the Angel GT)!! They get heat in them very quick with great feel and grip for for street riding/canyons!! The Angels I had I put around 6K on them and still had tons of grip and tread!! I had tried these out because I originally rolled with the Pirelli Diablo Rosso Corsa, but they don't really build up much heat with street riding. To much stop and go to really get the tire worked up and you tend to slide a little with loose breaking.. Plus the Angel GT is great in the rain for you guys that ride your bike everyday and aren't scared of the water :lol
I run the Rosoo Corsas on my R6 for both street and track and can't say I've noticed any issues with street riding. Can you elaborate on your experiences?
I'd obviously like to learn as much as possible so I am safe out there.

On the track, I am an intermediate rider and the tires seem great for my pace.

This past weekend guys behind me said my tires were leaving black strips around the turns. I just keep thinking, chaching there goes another $100 worth of tire! I have 1,375 miles and the rear is about done. Good thing the special is going on this month, I like how the tires handle and at $190 its affordable to keep using!

Yeah, noticed the RS10's are not gonna last long. So I bought a set of Pirelli Supercorsa SP as Rider's Discount had them on special for $319 a set. :yesnod

Haven't rev'd mine past 8500 rpm, 165 miles and tire has rolled up rubber on it. Yet I still have small chicken strips one both sides, I'm so squid right now.

:secret: Been hiding my bike because I don't want anyone to see the tire like that :crash

Just replaced my first rear @ 4,XXX miles. Definitely a softer compound tire than I am used to but not complaining bc it grips pretty good for me.

Here's my tire with only 150 miles on the bike. Rode the bike up in N. GA mtns in aggressive phase. Tires were 33R and 35F Cold

Right now I'm happy with my pilot road (3?)s. They have way more grip than people give them credit for, I did my track day just fine on them and had the bike pretty leaned over (due to being crossed up like an idiot) and they never slipped at all. They only lose grip when it's below about 60F outside. They last about 4-5 times as long as pilot powers.

They're NOT super high performance tires but totally fine for street riding and some track use.

The RS10 will compete with a dot slick nearly. Super sticky. Just feed it psi or you'll go through it faster then hell. For those not very fast at the track or in the twisties go with the Q3's. By fast I mean FAST. IE RS10's imo should be used by people who don't mind buying them and like the safety factor or by those in the fastest level at your local trackday org or for racers to use on their street bike. Overkill imo for anyone not stupid fast and basically one of the faster guys in their local track day org.

We have local guys who have the q3's getting slick on them and then the RS10 comes into place. If you're not having a Q3 slide around on you then the Q3 may be better as it will surely last longer and still a great tire.
