Hello All,

I just got an awesome 2000 R1 that I am trying to get it back to the way it should be... There is a couple things the previous owner did that I don't agree with.. Working on the cooling system right now.. He put the fan on a switch, So the fan runs constant unless you switch it off ofcourse.. I don't want the fan to run all the time, Only as needed, So I would like to get it wired the way it is supposed to be.. I think he just used the two wires that go to the switch, But I am not sure..

Out of the two wires that go to the switch on the radiator should one of them be hot or not? I am going to test the switch in a little bit.. I am thinking he had a problem with temp switch but not sure yet..

Also on the speedo cluster, It always says "Lo" and does not display temp.. Does the cluster get it's reading from the same switch on the radiator?

Thanks,

Ant...

It sounds like someones put on a radiator from a 98-99 on the bike. They are different and so is the cabling. I Believe that the 98-99 has two different connectors while the 00-01 only has one , were the two different sensors are combined into one. I dont remember it exactly but the 00-01 has a big grey plastic plug while the 98-99 has two smaller connectors.

Yup,
Thats exactly what I was thinking... I looked online and the 98 -99 have the 2 switches as I have on here now......
I found a used radiator from a 2000 R1 and it has only one sensor on it... I will get it ordered...
Can you tell me what wires plug into the switch? Colors? and how many wires? I think previous owner cut off the plug connector cause I just don't see it...

Thanks,

I'd hold off on ordering the 00-01 radiator and here's why...The 98-99 R1 had a very simple cooling fan set up. Fan, thermo switch and fuse. That's it. The 00-01 sends a signal to your fan relay that turns on the fan at a pre-determined temp which is around 220-225F. Not so easy to modify it so the fan comes on earlier. I've done it but it was a pain! I'd suggest keeping the 98-99 radiator and installing a Wells SW518 thermo switch available at Autozone or eBay. This fan switch comes on at 190 instead of the factory 220. Install it, bypass your relay and run it inline with your radiator fan. That's what I did with my 00 R1 and it works great! Use the 2nd hole for a thermo unit and get your temperature back on your display.

Ok,
That sounds even better... Would rather the fan kicked on a little sooner then the 220...

Can you tell me how to wire it... I am not the best with electrical..
Do I use any of the switches on this 98-99 radiator?

I will pick up the wells sw518 today or tomorrow..Do I need anything else?

I appreciate your help...
