Does anyone know if the engine mounts are the same on a 03 from a 01??

I currently have a 01 engine but am having internal problems, I found a complete 03 with less then 1,000 miles on it for $1,200 US, so my question is....do I get the 01 completely rebuilt or do I buy the 03??

What advantages would I have if I went with the 03 over the 01??

Any suggestions would be much appreciated!!

The 03 comes complete with all electronics so that's shouldn't be an issue.
I need to decide if I am going to completely rebuild the 01 and put performance parts such as pistons, valves, ect or just change the whole thing to the FI 03.

Did anyone here do a complete rebuild on a carbed motor with performance parts? if so, what did it cost you and was there a noticeable power increase?

Thor, this is an interesting question. I am not 100% certain, but I would suspect the 03 mounts are in the same location as the 01. If you were talking about an 04, I doubt it would be a straight bolt in since the 04/05 motor is highly redesigned and narrower. I would be curious to see if martinc has a definitive answer on this one. Don't forget, you will need all the FI electronics, throttle bodies, wiring harness for the various sensors, etc.

not to mention airbox, and i believe you will need the tank as well since the fuel pump probably runs at a higher pressure in the FI bikes.

While possible, i would be willing to bet that they investment required would amount to basically the majority of the cost of a decent used bike.....

:fork the engine mounts are just different enough not to work!! i dropped an "01" motor in my "98", and although the enginges are similar, i did need a lot of the "01" bracketry to make the install perfect and original appearing!!! i would keep the "01" motor and upgrade that!! Ivans is the guy to talk to about rebuilding!!
