well i just bought my R1 yesterday and she started at the dealership but once she got home (and hour ride in the back of a truck in zero degree weather) she wont start! will turn over for about 3 seconds and sounds like that battery is dead....The lights on the digital read out come on and the fuel pump kicks on but wont fire! now i know that the cold ride home is the reason why she wont start. i wanted to take that battery out and put it on a trickle charge. first off were is that battery located and how hard is it to take out. the bike is inside of my appartment at the bottom of my stairs in 40 ish degree weather so i dont want the battery to die any more than it already has. any information would help me out... Thanks

oh yeah the bike is an 02 and didnt come with a book!

the screen says low fuel so there cant be that much. i know it has to be the battery because it slowly turns over for 2-3 seconds and stops because there isnt enough battery left....

battery is under the seat...you'll need an allen wrench to take it off.

Those batteries are sensitive to cold...their voltage drops a lot when frozen.
The voltage will get back up if you get it inside.

No trickle chargers.................

NO TRICKLE CHARGERS!

BIKE CHARGERS DAMN IT!
Do you mind what would be a good charger, something like the battery tender maybe?

I had the strangest thing happen....

My bike did the same thing. Wouldnt crank. I tried it for a few days. Nothing. Even in the middle of the day when it was like 50 to 60 degrees. SO the other day I just tried something. I took it off the kick stand, leaned it so that it was straight, and vroooooooom... Right to life on the first try. Very odd. I can see if it was cold, but it wasnt starting even when it was warm.

Since then, no problems. Weird.
