The stalling, misfiring, and throttel lag should have been corrected. This is first I've heard of it on '08s. If it's still there a switch of the ecu should fix all those problems.

Can't help ya with the exup valve and valve guide problem.

If the engine code light comes on again, check it yourlself and then call stealership.

The ticking noise and clutch chatter are normal.

According to Yamahog there is still a lag, although much less noticeable, with the fixed ECU. This is probably the same that is programmed into the 08. Considering the rest of what you've listed you could either have a faulty ECU altogether, a lemon altogether, or are doing things in your riding that are causing these.

I would like to start a "Problems" thread for the '08 R1. Correct me if I am wrong, but we can not create sub-forums; only threads. There is not a sub-forum yet for '08 R1 mechanical issues, (or if there is, I somehow missed it).

So far, after doing some searches in this forum, these are some of the problems that '08 R1 owners have mentioned. By the way, if I accidentally picked up some '07 problems, it is because most of these guys are currently posting in the '07 Mechanical Problems area.

'08 R1 Problems:

Stalling, misfire, throttle-lag issue, still there on some '08 units, even though problem was supposed to be corrected with updated ECU/ECM.

Bad valve guides.

Mystery "check engine", overheating, engine code light illuminates. Owner takes bike to dealer, dealer clears codes, dealer says nothing is wrong, code/light comes back shortly thereafter.

Unexplained ticking noise coming from engine.

Clutch rattle.

Do you even own a '08 R1? Because it doesn't seem like it to me.

 

I can't believe some of you are saying you aren't getting an 08 because of this guys post. It's the same bike as the 07 there arent going to be any new problems.

 

I think its a lil early to really make a list of things that are wrong with it, given there aren't that many people that have had experiences. Once everyone begins to see a pattern, you can determine what are ACTUAL problems compared to issues you may have with YOUR particular bike.
