please explain 'revised'.. if you're talking about an OEM cct from Yamaha, return it, its JUNK!

if you're talking about a MANUAL CCT, ala APE OR GRAVES, (standard or high precision versions) read on :thumbup

extremely common misconception on this bike.. you are not looking for TDC!! I didn't realize this for a while
and recently watched the APE CCT install video, they say TDC.. yet when you stop the video you see they
ARE NOT at TDC!! instead BTDC as the manual says.. but every damn bike in the past was always TDC so
I guess they didn't want to complicate matters, technically calling it TDC complicates them anyway :lol

what you're looking for is 105 degrees BTDC (BEFORE TOP DEAD CENTER). You can also check timing
when you're here, see attached pic from service manual.. find BTDC.. remove CCT.

k mark aligned as should be, at BTDC of compression stroke, piston #1 :fingr:

please make absolutely sure you are at BTDC of compression stroke of PISTON ONE!!
you can arrive at the same k mark as pictured but if you're not on the compression stroke
then you will not be where you need to be for proper timing set and fvck shit up. The reason
we go to BTDC of compression stroke on PISTON ONe is that this is where the CAM CHAIN is
at its loosest spot. If you were to remove the spark plugs and rotate the engine you will find
at one point of the rotation (forward) the engine just spins forward on its own, this is as it is
going toward BTDC, it sometimes stops dead on it, or just barely past it.. the other half rotation
you find k mark on its spot the engine should be tighter and require manually cranking forward. :D

I recommend checking timing, I know its a PITA but I bet you if its already off you wont know it and you'll
have to come back and check it all again if something goes wrong. It takes a couple of months of riding regularly
for some symptoms to show up on this bike if timing is a tooth off, so just get it right the 1st time.

worse that can happen if you skip enough 'teeth' on this bike is that it wont start. make sure its right.

install new CCT and tighten, once you get it snug, and while applying pressure (finger tighten) crank engine forward
a full two rotations to get back to BTDC of compression stroke.

once there and you've made sure its as tight as it will go finger tight, then back off a 1/4 turn if
conventional manual CCT or 1/2 turn out if its the precision model :thumbup

NEVER crank the engine forward with the cct removed.. you will skip a tooth guaranteed!!

NEVER crank engine backwards with oem cct, you can back off a little when the aftermarket CCT is
installed but you need to pay attention or it will skip.

Hello, I would like to reinstall OEM Timing Chain Tensioner.

Do I have to remove the spark plugs or they can stay inside?

Do I also need a new gasket for the generator cover?

Is the only guide or can I do that: Remove the timing chain tensioner and install the new, then 6th gear insert, pull the clutch, slide the motorcycle, and then release the clutch. (That's how say people in Europe Forum)

MY english is not that good, so sorry..

I would not install an OEM CCT, they are pure junk..

there's a reason we get rid of them. go with something proper from APE or GRAVES, precision manual CCT.

you don't need to remove sparks, its actually easier if you leave them in as it allows you to rotate the engine
CLOCKWISE or forward and you will have some compression so it will offer some resistance, ideally easier
land accurately at the K MARK.

I don't know what you're saying in your last sentence.. READ THE SERVICE MANUAL! :lol :dundun:

haha, sorry man .. Can you please answer me if new gasket for generator cover is necessary??

in my last sentences I wanted to say if that's possible:

1. Unscrew two hex bolts holding CCT.
2. Remove old CCT and gasket. CCT will come out unlocked to and extended to full length.
3. Unpack new CCT. CCT will(MUST) be short and locket. DO NOT UNLOCK IT.
4. Install new gasket on new chain tensioner.
5. Install new chain tensioner. Bolts torque is 10Nm.
6. Put bike on stand so the rear wheel would be in the air.
7. Put bike on 6th gear.
8. Spin the rear wheel in reverse direction until two cylinders go through compression cycle.
9. Abruptly move(spin) rear wheel backward and forward (2-3 attempts).
Last two steps are required to spin crankshaft to the opposite direction to tighten the back portion of cam cain which is normally loose so chain damper would press on CCT rod and unlock it.
10. Start the bike. You good if no cam chain noise.

Thank you again

Not the way the book does it...and yes you need the gasket...You don't want to skip a tooth on the cams, and you also never want to spin the engine backwards....

Also forget the oem style, get a graves or ape manual cct. They work way better:fact

The absolute safest way is to remove the valve cover and zip tie the chain to the camshafts. One of the APE videos shows this.

What I did on my '99 was to wedge the rear chain guide in place before removing the tensioner. I used a screwdriver to do this, and used a zip tie to make sure it couldn't move.

Have you downloaded the service manual?

If not do so, and just follow the instructions. You can find it here for download...and ur will make sense....

Yes, I downloaded Service Manual, but I just wanted to know if there is any other installation possible, for example the same as APE Install Video..

I will follow Service Manual and do so, I do not want to do anything wrong..

The graves manual cct install instructions have you wedge the follower with a screwdriver.

Just follow the OEM service manual to install am OEM cct.....
