Just hit 12k miles on my bike and went about changing the spark plugs today.

I ordered the NGK iridium plugs which are said to fit my model however they didn't fit the spark plug tool that comes factory from Yamaha within the tool kit, the new plugs are too large.

Because of this I couldn't fit the new ones which lead me to believe I have the incorrect plugs?

Here are the plugs: 4 x NGK IRIDIUM IX PLUGS *SALE* CR9EIX YAMAHA,YZF-R1 1000, KAWASAKI HONDA ETC | eBay

See photo below - I'm sure you can see which is the new one.

Can I go about installing these plugs or have I got the wrong ones? They look completely different.

I can't say what's wrong or right.
I've run both stock and iridiums in the -07 and both worked fine, no difference in performance but the iridiums will (hopfully) last longer.

To be fair, i've never noticed the stock copper core plugs been worn out when changed at service..

As always, if in any doubt go by the book and you can't go wrong.

Just out of curiosity, beside the extra cost, are there any technical reason why -09 and on won't work with iridium plugs?
