Sorry to keep whoring the forum up lol.

Can we have a thread w/ everyone's experience with the electronics and different modes? Things you've found to work well, etc.

this is my first bike ever. so i am learning about it on here.....

Congrats on the bike. Recommend using some of the rider aids at a higher level for a bit. Not sure where you live but cold tires suck. Sand and salt suck bad so keep your eyes out for that. A motorcycle safety course isn't a bad idea either. I actually have a great time every time a take a learning course. Congrats and enjoy.

Just out of curiosity. Those that like wheelie control. Have you had a 2012 R1 or later before the 2015. My 2012 woukd not wheelie on higher levels of TC but wasn't exactly wheelie control. Is there a difference? I know there are more settings for wheelie control now. What does that do that a 2012 unit wouldn't do?

MotoGP racers ride better than any of us.

I just feel that electronic aids will decrease a novice riders skills more. I see it almost every day.

Novice riders bragging about how much electronic aids their bikes have.

Example: Powerful bike rear end slides a bit...the SR for a novice rider is to chop the throttle which is the wrong answer.

Traction control will do all the work for that novice rider therefor that novice rider will never understand how to take control over the above situation on his or her own.

Before anybody chops my head off, this is my opinion. And like I said before, I've never riden a bike with electronic aid or even ABS but I'd like to. :yesnod

It is what it is. If it keeps newbs safer then so be it. Your line of thinking is saying that those who didn't experience crashing in a steal car with no safety features shouldn't be driving a car with ABS and all around airbags.

I've been riding for going on 10 years. My last 2 bikes being a supermotard and a cbr 1000rr. Sliding around was a hobby of mine, but I welcome these new features.

Aids make you faster and safer that's why GP , WSBK ect all use them. Could be wrong but it seems to me it's a macho man type attitude most have that are against electronics. The oh I'm such Ingrid rider I want to all that stuff myself or something. I bought this bike specifically for all the electronics. I've never even ridden a bike with electronics before. I know they will make me a faster safer rider so unwanted a bike with them.

To learn the electronics you need to adjust your thinking if you want to use the traction control and other electronic aides correctly. Start with the bike in power mode 3 or 2 with no other rider aides on. No TC, no lift control, etc... This allows you to learn about the bikes charactoristic and manorism. Once you get use to the bike and are increasing speed, move down in powermodes until you get to used to 1. Then start adding in TC and slide control etc. This way you learn more about the bike and the rider aides make you go faster as opposed to being a crutch. This is how Motogp rookies are introduced to advanced electronics and the same way you should too.

The point I was trying to make. I just couldn't word it correctly.

Thank you for your clarification. I too would love the new tech but as stated above, it can be a crutch and cause one to not fully learn the characteristics of the bike.

Not trying to break anyone's balls. I want you all to enjoy yourselves. Carry on people. Enjoy those awesome 15's. I'll have one in the future once I'm tired of my 2009 which I doubt will happen anytime soon.

I believe you good people are confusing the "mode" and "pwr" settings and should re read the manual.

The "MODE A,B,C,D" are just pre loaded selections of PWR,TCS,SCS etc etc

Think of them as 4 adjustable groups. And if you say put all the settings on number 1 then A,B,C or D would be the same. They are just shortcuts.

So mode A with pwr 1 is the same as mode B with pwr 1 (all other settings not withstanding)

From the small graph in the manual PWR 1,2,3 all give full power at wide open throttle - its just the sensitivity and ratio to throttle applied vs the throttle plate opening...

I'd like to know what the final horsepower of PWR 4 is. It appears in the graph as about 60% full throttle.

Tell us about the quickshifter modes and wheelie control!!!

Power 4 is like a moped I felt like I could get off and push it faster when I tried it. The quick shifter is Awesome I havnt had any issues with it at any speed or rpm. Love the wheelie control. This is the first bike I've had with any electronics. It makes me feel like a motogp star lol.

IMHO - a 15 R1 is an apex bike, something you buy because you want the next level, having ridden for a while on bikes without the gizmos to understand mechanical traction without a computer intervening. The rider aids should then "fill out" your acquired ability as a human can't ride on the edge constantly as well as a computer can let you.

If you look at the telemetry on the various riders in a MotoGP race, you will notice the younger riders ride in a far more binary way to the older riders that learnt to race without the aids. That is why the only high-sides this year have been in the rain by younger riders - "riding away from your computer".

The manufacturers have no choice but to add these aids to their halo models. There is a demand from riders and they have social pressures to make their products as safe as possible.

I love the aids, it allows me to ride every lap at the pace of my best lap with less fatigue but same enjoyment. It will never replace riding skill as a computer cannot undo the laws of physics.

I have been riding a Buell 1125R that I spent several years learning on and improving my abilities as a rider and a mechanic. The bike and I were good, but it had no electronic aids at all. I had 147 HP and 84 TQ with all of the trick stuff that did to her.
New open class bike is 2015 R1 that is now in my life and I am probably as happy with it as any sport bike I have ridden or tested in the last few years.
The rider aids are really interesting and great fun to use for various reasons. It's been great learning how it behaves in almost any and every setting and then throwing it in situations and see what happens! Great fun!!!
I would agree with many, these are not to make a novice ride like a pro, but are a safety net for those who ride at higher risk levels of performance and wish to attempt to decrease that risk when at those levels. And that pertains to any level, from slippery roads while needing to ride the bike, to flying some central Idaho road with no cars for 20 miles and U want to use minimums and max motor to really see if it is 180mph bike or whatever track U visit and see if it does what I could with my Buell. I'm faster with the R1 while feeling like there is something to be said for that. Maybe it is faster with aids, simply because it is faster period, I'm not sure.
Either way U look at them, the bike is awesome!
