The new blue is stunning, I love it.

If Yamaha doesn't add all the new tech on the Blade by 2018, I'm going to record a video of the new Blade doing a burnout and flicking all that rubber on the R1's face. Yes, as if it's shitting on its face because that is what it'll be like.

$1000 if you buy the flash tune kit. not to mention the honda has adjustable engine braking standard.
yamaha left out several very big key items to be honest. I can't imagine why they would do that. they didn't really make the "ultimate" machine like they act like they did. everyone else has better forks, better brake calipers and now a more complete electronics package. it's great they do such a highly rated job but they left out items that should of been as standard as a rider seat is. ooh thank god they put passenger pegs and seat on it. you know, something a sportbike shouldn't have at all.
It seems like the 2016 ZX10R took the yamaha idea one step further. It add the Balance Free Show suspension, Brembo M50 mono blocks, Brembo disc's, Brembo master cylinder. Kawasaki also added auto blip down shift (just get a flash it doesn't cost anything extra like the R1 does), engine breaking control, and factory race adjustments with the swing arm and steering head. So everyone had to at least match the features on the Gen 5 ZX10r.

Kawi might be king of the hill again in the 2017 shoot outs. It feels like they dont get a lot of love but they have been pumping out some monster liter bikes for awhile now. I remember years ago they brought in a zx10 to compete with the euros in the euro shoot out and it killed a couple of them.

Yamaha started the big step up
for the other manufactures to match and step over with the 15. This is a game that repeats itself over n over again. CBR fans bitched about it for years......kawi fans bitched until the 16.... now its yamaha fans turn. Yamaha focused on the long over due upgrade for the r6 these past two years.... they cant make everyone happy.

I'm a sucker for red and I also really loved the 2009 R1 in black and gold so I had the 2017 models remade the way I like it in Photoshop. What do you think?

I also remade the 2016 limited edition.

Yeah well... I am with Yam on this one...

Of course, on paper, well, one could argue: the fork is not as good (should be an ohlins right), the calipers are not brembo, the downshift is not there, it does not have built-in engine brake control as the Kawa etc...etc.. That's the paper argument.

Now let's take those guys on the track and damn the Yam is a killer machine. There IS one investment to do: getting the YEC ECU and get the thing a really good mapping. But that's not tooo expensive, given for instance the price difference between the bike and an s1000rr for instance...

Once that's done...I mean...on the long straights, which should be the realm of the 2016 s1000rr...I am just KILLING them...and then in the corners, the playground of the Yam...:smile2::smile2: bye bye the others ! That bike rocks ! And I used to have a fully track prepared HP4 and I have been riding a fully track prepared 2016 s1000rr from a friend...

And then in races...the Kawa looks good on paper. But all the racers that I have been riding with and who are using the Kawasaki are not happy. It sounds good, but it does not work that well. Of course, if you are super high level and semi or full pro, it's a different story, but then your bike has only the name in common with most of us.

Anyway. And yeah, the rear shock is not like the ultimate one. A good Ohlins TTX works better. But actually, the front suspensions are pretty good. I tried 2 R1s that were pretty similar (mine with standard forks and one with a full ohlins system). Well, you have to be pretty damn good to really see a difference between well-set OEM forks and high end ohlins fork. I actually find Yam did a very good job with the front (a bit less with the rear).

And the brakes...the calipers are actually quite good. Put in there some very good pads and they are giving you very strong braking. Now the master cylinder is not all that great and I am used to a Brembo Pr19x18...so that's what I have and with the OEM calipers it works incredibly well. But I cannot say how much better it works than with the OEM master cylinder, as I switched right away.

Anyway, my 2 cents.

No matter what the other japanese manufacturers and BMW do to their electronic packages, they are still missing one important design feature of the R1 - crossplane. I don't know about others, but I would be very hesitant swapping that particular design feature for an OEM downshifter or auto blipper. In my opinion, the only interesting bikes except for the R1 are the Panigale and the RSV4, also bikes with alternative firing orders...

you are aware that it`s a flash or a bikeside/bench harness + extra cash to activate that blipper... you still gotta pay a pretty penny.
I have both bikes. And i paid nels at two wheel dyno works to flash my zx10. $300 with unlimited future tunes for the zx10, auto-blip clutchless downshifts, tuned for my exhaust, remove the throttle restrictions, top speed limiter, lower fan temps, just to name a few

Atalo is right, all this AB talk has made me forget about the xplane motor and the roar she makes. **** the AB's! i still want one though

I'm mad jelly you have both:frown2:. POP quiz, Keanu has a gun to your head and makes you choose the R1 or ZX, which do you choose?

If I had to pick one, it would be the zx10. Only because it is more comfortable to ride on the street and I really love the brembo m50 mono blocks with the brembo master. If I had to choose either for the track, it would be the R1, for sure. Plus I am the only one in my group with a ZX10. Everyone else has R1's lol.
