Never heard of a red line flashing. Got a pic or better yet a video of it happening?

 

As far as I know, the "maximum rpms for X miles" is 100% legal-speak to keep the power band down to let riders acclimate to a bike with less crashing, and nothing to do with the engine.

 

It falls on its face hard at about 7,500. I dont remember it doing that b4. No check engine warnings tho. After i stopped few miles up the road, it wouldnt rev past 4000. Just like hitting a rev limit. I killed the motor trying to limp home. Restarted, revs fine now. Didnt have room too try the 7500 limit again tho, just took it home. 🤷‍♂️

 

Sounds like a warranty issue and dealer visit, if someone doesn't know an easy fix for a common glitch that could cause that. How's the main battery connection tightness? I realize that's a really generic suggestion, but it can be the cause of random problems.

Once you get your first service done, the shift limiter needs to be reset. From factory it blinks lowers than redline. It's a way the bike reminding you not to go high into RPMs to break it in properly per the manual.

 

how do you go about reseting the limiter? would rather do my own oil change and such than have to bring it to a dealer

Read your user manual. Many options to customize in the dash.

 

your rev limit will start flashing at 8000 RPM, factory setting. You can adjust this very easily and bump it up to whatever RPM you desire.

 

Hopefully OP reports back about what was causing the actual rev limit issues with his engine (separate from the blinky shift light).

 

Weeeelllll..... Think i found my problem... I was out for a ride when i posted. While it was cuttin power off at 7500 ish, after i got back on it cut me back to 3000.. Wouldnt take fuel, just like hitting a rev limit.. idled fine. I got home and dumped the tank. Looked like apple juice. Apparently was the fuel. Idk.

 

Fresh fuel made everything happy?

 

You have a brand new ‘20 with a major issue and you didn’t go straight to the nearest Yamaha dealership? I don’t understand...

 

Naa.. Kind of a big deal to load it on a trailer, n then haul it fitty miles to the dealership. When i made the first post, I was out on a ride n tht (hoped) maybe it was programming. It was later, on the ride.. That it died on a 2nd-3rd shift.. Then wouldnt rec over 3g. No check engine lights, so usually thats fuel. Altho, fyi, if u start bike on a stand, and put it in gear(oiling chain).. that WILL illuminate the check engine lights.. Which disables all the electronics. Fortunately, kill switch off key off resets it. But THAT also took me a bit to figure out since i usually just turn key off or put kickstand down to kill engine.
