I recently purchased the 2020. I have an AR GPR2 exhaust on order and I would like to flash it when it’s installed. I can't find any products on the market for the 2020. Does anyone have any suggestions?

a reflash? say it isnt so!! you're doing it all wrong.. you're supposed to buy the YES
and leave it 100% stock for the next 5 years!!

what is this forum coming to? folks running around thinking they can just tune their
bikes and ride happy. :D

just a little sarcasm there for yah>.

I am in the process of picking up my 2020 R1. I will ordering a full akra titaniun and having my ECU flash. the question that I have is. Am I going to need a PCV. My understanding is that it does the same as a flash and I don't need it. but i will like to ask the experts. thanks for the your response in advance.

Just picked up my my 2020 couple of weeks ago. I’ll be hitting up Superbike Unlimited for the reflash tomorrow. I’ll post up what they say. Going from a 11 model to 2020, this thing has too may switches and buttons!

Talked with Superbike Unlimited on the phone today. They said that currently the 2020 R1 ECU is “locked” and their ecu flash vendor has not been able to unlock it yet. According to them, they are not offering a reflash on the 2020 R1 at this time.

No shit its locked, did they really expect to just hook it up to FTune n' voila, lets tune?

i'm not surprised to hear of this at all.. I'm certain Yamaha would have thought of this for the Euro5 Update.

Hey I am in the same boat but unfortunately I couldn't wait. I know many people say twobrothers are dumb, gay, shitty etc, but I like the way it looks and its mofuckin loud and weighs about 1/10 of the stock cat and slip on. Overall I could not be happier I love the way the cp4 sounds and now I can easily hear it on the other side of town! Anyway I would say get the exhaust wait for the flash, they are gonna have to do something special with the euro5 bullshit. Thank god that tree hugger potus could only ruin shit for eight years and the new guy although infected put an end to the scare tactic global warming no emission laws cuz it would be even worse. How much carbon can a almost 20g 1000cc motorcycle put out right?

For anybody wondering the stock cat and slip on weighs in at very close to 20lbs, or 9 kilos. So with the weight saving and the noise improvement its a win win situation!

Attack is still waiting like everyone else for the ecu to unlocked. I check in once a week lol they are still waiting. Latest estimate is near the end of the month. So aside from getting a race ecu it’s either wait or risk running lean which isn’t something I’m willing to do or just leave it stock for the time being

What is the risk of running lean? Just curious.

I check on here about once every couple weeks to see if the reflash is available or even some kind of tuning kit (PCV) for the 2020 and nothing yet. So far I’ve got all the mods finished that I want except the exhaust. Either going with Akarapoic or Austin Racing. Still on the fence about which exhaust to buy considering the time it’s taking for a fuel management system to be developed I guess I have nothing but time. It’s May already come on!

Spoke to someone in Europe and they said the 2020 can’t be flashed and that the kit ecu/harness is required to tune. So unless dynojet or bazzaz or the like make a module we are screwed. Right now pretty pissed (at myself for not following my own advice) and will probably ditch the R1M the first chance I get. It’s been nothing but a pain in the ass since I got it. And while it looks awesome it’s not worth the headache let alone the $$$. Back to back had more fun on my R6 anyway. Yes I’m very grumpy today

So I spoke to Bazzaz and they should have a module for the 2020 real soon possibly as early as next week. I would prefer an ecu flash but at this point I'm just tired of waiting so if the Bazzaz is an option that's what I'll take.

As to the issues with flashing the 2020 I don't know why given the bike isn't all that different from the 19, unless it's some kind of compliance thing or Yamaha just decided to make it difficult for the heck of it.

It they are saying it can be flashed who has done it? FT Ecu has been working on it for a while and still haven't cracked it yet. Given their track record I think that says something about the 2020 ecu

My tuner says it unlikely to have an issue as the bike will not run lean. It’s more likely to run rich and that’s why you get a lot of back firing. I am running mine without a tune and am not really worried about it. Tune would be the better way to do things but not really an option atm. I did however order a kit ecu and harness for the 2020 and it should be here next week. Then we will tune it.

If you intend to use the bike on the street then the race ecu is not the way to go. The ecu/harness removes all the items that make the bike street legal, so you have to be committed to track only or really love being a rebel!!! lol

As for the bike running "not" running lean....well a friend from Yamaha told me specifically that if I remove the cat from the 2020 R1 to get it TUNED as it runs very lean. He didn't go into details and I didn't ask. Could be because of the Euro4/5 stuff, but as he's never said anything like that to me before regarding any of the work I've done to my Yamaha's I'm going to err on the side of caution and take his advice to me it wouldn't be worth taking the chance. These bikes aren't cheap. If I keep mine I will either
1) get a mod to piggy back the OEM ecu so it can be tuned (not preferred)
2) put the cat back on and get a different exhaust
3) fully commet to tracking the bike and get kit ecu/harness
4) be patient and wait until someone can unlock and flash the OEM ecu so I can get it tuned

There will be a power commander shortly for tuning fuel.

Spoke with Superbike Unlimited yesterday (5/28/20) and Freddie said Neither they (nor anyone else) has been able to crack the 2020 ecu code yet, so at this time, still no flash available. Hope someone can get this figured out soon, I just bought a new blue 2020 R1 today.
